About OBNUG

One Bronco Nation Under God is the online voice of Boise State football fans. At least, that’s what it says on our business card.

But it has become so much more than that. It is a conscience for the local media. It is a repository for great writing and homerism. It is a friend in tough times, a scapegoat when it needs to be, and a way to kill some time at work pretty much every day.

OBNUG began with humble roots. Two Boise State fans, tired of seeing the Bronco Nation fanbase diluted with people who didn’t know the difference between Jared Zabransky and Ryan Dinwiddie, desired change. They desired a place where loyal Boise State fans could offer loyal Boise State opinions. The Internet, like everything else on planet earth, deserved to have an imprint of Boise State football.

There. Done.

The site strives to provide Boise State news from a fan’s perspective…and to make fun of Robb Akey’s mustache. Fortunately, the two go hand in hand. There is lots to love about Bronco football, so there is lots to write about for the guys at OBNUG.

And write they have. Over the first few months of the blog, they have proven that there is a desire for 24/7 Boise State news, and in the process, they have inspired the Treasure Valley media to step it up a notch. Mike Prater has yet to send a thank you.

The tenets of OBNUG are as follows:

  • News. OBNUG provides a one-stop shopping experience for all Bronco news. If it happens, we’ll tell you about it, probably using words in ways they are not supposed to be used.
  • Stories. We do our own Bronco reporting at times, too. Most of it is fan perspective or New Mexico State bashing or open letters to various people we don’t like all that much. The “stories” umbrella is pretty large.
  • Insight. Hopefully through reading the site, you will realize that we really do know what we’re talking about. As veteran BSU fans, we’ve been around the block a few times, and we can tell you things about the block that you might not have realized before.
  • Humor. This one’s pretty relative. Sorry, Chadd Cripe.
  • Perspective. This one should probably be higher on the list. Perspective is a big part of OBNUG. It is in the OBNUG Constitution that resides in the basement of the Idaho Historical Museum (next to the Oregon Trail smallpox child skeleton). What sets us apart is that we can provide a level-headed, unique view of what’s going on with Bronco sports…now with 50% less B.S.

That is a brief history of this little site. A 1,500 word brief history. We’re excited about the future of our Boise State blog, and we’re looking forward to the day when we show up at WAC media convention with our press credentials and boldly proclaim: “Who wants to live-blog the continental breakfast?”
