Boise State recruit profile: Sean Modster

Recruiting-rect_medium

The highlight video above is 12 seconds long, which should neither be a criticism of Sean Modster's high school career nor a condemnation to my YouTube skills. My YouTube skills are just fine; I have a full playlist of dog videos, thankyouverymuch. Modster just happens to be one of those uber-talented, under-recruited, non-prototypical guys that Boise State specializes in turning into stars. Other schools aren't interested until Boise State is interested, kind of like how skinny jeans aren't popular until a Jonas brother wears them. Modster, discovered by Chris Petersen, could very well be buried under a pile of recruiting mail at this moment, possibly a manila envelope or two from Petersen himself. As one of Boise State's earliest commits still left standing, I hope he sticks. I hear there's a prize for longest commitment without flipping.

Scouting report

Via ESPN:

Modster displays just adequate size. Not overly big, but is solid enough that he is acceptable. Modster is effective because he is talented to a certain level, but then also plays smart and does all the little things. He is probably not talented enough for the big-time BCS schools but at a lower level he should be sought after and end up being very productive.

"Solid enough to be acceptable" = my professional credo.

Chance that Chris Petersen flips him to UW

Medium. Modster is one of five current Boise State commits who were recruited by Petersen, a number that is down from fifty. When asked following Harsin's hire where he stood on his commitment, Modster told the IPT:

I'm waiting to talk to (Harsin) to see how everything else plays out like where coach (Robert) Prince is going and what he's going to do and see how everything plays out.

We may have found the one person who wanted Robert Prince to stay in Boise.
