Boise State Roster Countdown 2022: Day 15, Deven Wright

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: SEP 06 Marshall at Boise State Photo by Douglas Stringer/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

We are one day shy of TWO WEEKS y’all. I don’t think I can hold my breath that long, but I’m gonna try. Before I do that, I would like to introduce an exciting and giant EDGE in Mr. Deven Wright.

#15, Deven Wright, Junior, EDGE

Devon Wright

Stats

Height: 6’5

Weight: 223

High School: Desoto Central HS, Tutwiler, MS (Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Perkinston, MS)

How’d he get to The Blue™?

On October 29th, Deven received offers from UAB and Boise State. He actually committed to UAB the same day, but the Broncos called him on his bluff. My secret nonexistent sources claim that Andy Avalos sent Deven this video every single day until he decommitted and eventually signed with the Broncos.

Nickname

“The Mississippian Menace”

While following my track record of choosing long nicknames, this one actually alliterates. (And don’t lie, you’re sitting at your screen sounding this out right now)

Look-alike

A frequent face on DC movies and TV shows, Deven Wright bears the resemblance on and off screen to actor David Ajala.

Career Highlights

In 9 games at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Deven logged 34 tackles (28 solo), 10 TFLs AND 7.5 sacks. A menace no doubt, and likely ready to make more noise on the Blue in 2022. I also threw his signing video below which has a few highlights as well.

2022 Prospectus

Deven comes with the new recruiting class packed with reinforcements in the pass rush. While it’s hard to predict playing time for a brand new player, he’s 6’5 and got 7.5 sacks in 9 games last year. He will be on the field.

Is he on Twitter?

He is! @DevenWright6 and his background indicates he does in fact have that dawg in him.

Completely made up fact

Deven recently made a switch in his bowling game to a heavier ball, and it’s been paying dividends! His average score jumped nearly 50 points to a cool 200 points, leading the PBA to reach out to see if he’d be willing play on the offseason. In a statement, Deven said he’d “be proud to provide patrons of Buffalo Wild Wings with entertainment during the dark times” (any week where there is no football).
