Folks, we’re on the cusp of a week away from kickoff. I am on vacation, carefully scheduled to NOT miss the Boise State opener due to a wedding for once. Today is lucky number 8—Markel Reed

Stats
Height: 6’-0”
Weight: 190
High School: Temple HS, Temple, TX
How’d he get to The BlueTM?
Once a Texas Tech commit, Markel decommitted after Kliff Kingsbury was fired from TTU. Mr. Reed was a former three-star recruit from Temple, Texas who held offers from TTU, Purdue, Arkansas, Baylor, Kansas State, Rutgers, and Vanderbilt. He also had an offer from Cornell (you may have heard of it). While at Temple High, he was also on the track team, competing in triple jump and long jump
Nickname
”Fly Guy”
He’s got the hops.
Look-alike
We’re getting a major Omar Epps vibe, but that’s us.

Career highlights
After a consistent year in 2019, Markel made appearances in seven games in 2020, starting one. He made six tackles, five solo against Air Force, and four tackles with a TFL against Hawaii.

- Athlon Preseason All-Mountain West Third Team (2021)
- Phil Steele Preseason All-Mountain West Fourth Team (2021)
2021 Prospectus
After a couple solid seasons primarily as a backup, graduations and departures opened up the starting corner jobs this fall. Markel made the most of his audition, and was recently announced as one of the two starters.
Coach Avalos says #BoiseState CB's Markel Reed and Tyric LeBeauf will be the Broncos starting cornerbacks moving forward

Mentioned those two have been the most consistent at the position in fall camp
After the craziness of 2020, the defensive backfield has a fresh start with a new staff. Look for Reed and LeBeauf to try and make their mark with their starting roles. Their new position coach, Jeron Johnson, certainly left a mark on receivers back in his day, and he seems poised to elevate his unit further.
Is he on Twitter?
That’s an affirmative. Check the header image, people.
Completely made up fact
Markel is the current world record holder of corn maze solving, as he absolutely refuses to get beat on the corners.
