34 days isn’t really all that long if you think about it...and I JUST DID. With 34 sleeps until the Broncos take on UCF, it’s time to look at #34 on the Boise State roster—Alexander Teubner

#34, Alexander Teubner, RS Sophomore, S

Stats

Height: 5’ 11”

Weight: 194 lbs.

High School: Seaside HS, Seaside, OR

How’d he get to the Blue™?

By way of a walk-on out of Seaside. Mr. Teubner had a pretty good senior season with the Gulls as he was a first team all-state with rushing for 2,420 yards and scoring 44 touchdowns (what?) in his 2018 season. I couldn’t find a profile for him on any of the recruiting services. But he did visit some other schools as well.

Nickname

“Toobs”

Look-a-like

Damien nailed it last year. This is his secret (Bourne) identity.

Career Highlights

Mountain West scholar-athlete (‘19-’20). Appeared in one game for the Broncos (New Mexico) in 2020. He was named Scout Team Special Teams MVP for the Broncos last year. When guys make names for themselves early on in their careers that can only mean we are going to hear about them more in the coming years. He did make one appearance last year against New Mexico.

2021 Prospectus

Seeing the special teams accolades for Teubner leads me to believe he’ll continue to see the field in that capacity in ‘21 and beyond, but I’m not convinced we’ll be seeing him LIVE much at safety unless we get DEEP into the lineup. We’ve documented the hotly-contested cornerback competition that will take place in camp to replace both Avery Williams and Jalen Walker, but at safety...things are a bit more low-key. Unless camp has some zany, sweeps-week surprises in store, it looks like Tyreque Jones and JL Skinner will be holding things down at the safety spots. You might see a Kaniho from time to time or freshmen (true and redshirt) Seyi Oladipo and Semaj Verner, but I don’t think we’ll get to Teubner unless it’s late in a contest. Again, things can certainly change but I don’t know if Alex makes my projected two-deep at this time (I’m not a coach, and I’m not especially an expert), but I do think we’ll see him playing fast and loose on special teams and might be able to earn that scholly with time.

Is he on Twitter?

Yes, and he’s both studenting and athleting.

Completely made up fact

There has been some confusion about how to pronounce Teubner’s name. Some stay convinced that it’s “Toyb-Ner” while others are equally passionate about the “Tube-Ner” pronunciation. They are both wrong; it’s pronounced “Smith”.
