In these unprecedented times, it seems only fitting for Boise State to sign a recruit from Egypt for what is likely the first time ever (somebody ask Tom Scott) Say hello to a new face on the DL —Ahmed Hassanein

Stats

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 270 lbs.

High School: Loara High School, Anaheim, CA

How’d he get to The Blue™?

Born in the OC, Ahmed moved to Egypt when he was 6. After some turbulent time in his teens, Ahmed moved back to the US to live with his older brother, Cory Besch, a football coach and instructional aide at Loara High. Besch had played his college ball with Spencer Danielson, which gave the Broncos an inside track recruiting the quick-learning Hassanein.

Despite a litany of offers for the 3-star defensive lineman, in the end he chose Boise State because of his relationship with Coach Danielson.

Nickname

“Mr. Universe”

Being ranked #1 in his CrossFit age group in Egypt was no accident

Look-alike

Our comparison engine spit out Premiere League footballer Gabriel Jesus (pictured below), but Ahmed reminds some of us at OBNUG of Goldberg from The Mighty Ducks, if he’d gone on to CrossFit and football.

Career highlights

Ahmed has been learning football quickly over the past two years, but his meteoric rise in recruiting rankings isn’t his only highlight. Check this kid out:

As someone who has the same height/weight on paper, I can only imagine the parts of my body that would explode attempting any of that.

For the football side of things:

2021 Prospectus

Boise State has a decent amount of depth at defensive tackle right now, with Scott Matlock and Jackson Craven leading a young core. Thanks to the coronavirus messing with California highschool football’s 2020 season, and Hassanein’s already steep learning curve with picking up football, it seems likely he will redshirt in 2021. While he may not see the field during games, taking the time to build his body with a college weight room and nutritionist while learning the game from Avalos & Co seems like a recipe for success for Ahmed.

Is he on Twitter?

Absolutely! Follow him @A_Hassanein65, but don’t expect much in the way of tweeting.

Completely made up fact

Ahmed is a huge fan of the TV show Friends, and identifies most with Monica.
