While all the conferences dicker about how many games will actually be played this season, we here at OBNUG are committed to exactly the same amount of countdown articles as usual. Today, that brings us to a standout local product — TYLER CROWE
#31, Tyler Crowe, Redshirt Freshman, Linebacker
High School: Skyview HS (Nampa, ID)
How’d he get to the Blue™?
A local product, Tyler Crowe earned high praise his senior season, being named the 5A SIC Player of the Year, and a 2018-2019 Idaho Press Sports Star Football Athlete of the Year. Playing both offense (as a runningback) and defense (as a linebacker), he raked in the stats with 69 tackles, 1830 rushing yards, 495 receiving yards, and 25 touchdowns.
Despite the eye-popping numbers, recruiting noise stayed pretty quiet around Tyler, but it caught some eyes at Boise State. After growing up a BSU fan, Tyler jumped at the chance to play for his local team, and accepted a preferred walk-on slot on Signing Day 2019.
Everyone assumes he’s related to Russell Crowe, and he hasn’t exactly been dissuading them.
Our prediction machine keeps spitting out Daniel Radcliffe, and while it’s a bit of a stretch...it also kind of works?
While Tyler made it onto the field during the Portland State game in 2019, the real highlight of the season was likely him being named co-defensive MVP of the Bronco Bowl.
Despite being a beast, Tyler has Riley Whimpey and Brandon Hawkins ahead of him on the depth chart. Our usual expectations of special teams and limited rotation time are in place; HOWEVER, there have been running backs who converted to defense for playing time but then got swapped back to running backs because of need in the past (Doug Martin, anyone?). We’ve got zero inside information, but should needs arise, the coaching staff likes plugging in talented guys who deserve a shot.
Is he on Twitter?
Absolutely. Pretty active, too, although mostly retweets.
Completely made up fact
Tyler Crowe is a natural brunette who has committed to dyeing blonde. Rumors are split on whether he is following in the footsteps of Leighton Vander Esch or Marshall Mathers.
