As the heat index rises, the countdown gets ever lower. Today’s player is definitely not who my oldest kid is named after (despite sharing the nomenclature) but he is pretty awesome:
#38, DEMITRI WASHINGTON, REDSHIRT SOPHOMORE, STUD

Stats
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 260lbs
High School: Santa Fe Christian HS (Solana Beach, CA)
How’d he get to the Blue™?
A consensus 3-star defensive prospect, Demitri Washington had offers from most of the PAC-12 and about half of the Ivy League, not to mention a large swath of the Mountain West. Despite the crush of suitors, Demitri committed to Boise State and Coach Danielson, enrolling as a redshirt for the 2018 season.
Nickname
“Cousin!”
If you’ve ever played GTA V, you’ve definitely taken this guy bowling.

It’s a bit of a stretch, but can you tell me you can’t envision Demitri as Michael Pena in Ant Man? It’s impossible, they just fit.
Career Highlights
The 2019 season was a breakout for Washington. With Curtis Weaver and Sam Whitney in front of him on the depth chart, it initially looked like he might not see much of the field, but Demitri came to play. Appearing in all 14 games, Demitri’s output stepped up as the season wore on the guys in front of him, and he ended up with 34 tackles (21 solo), 4.5 sacks, and a fumble recovery.
2020 Prospectus
With Curtis Weaver departed to the NFL, the starting STUD rotation looks to come through Sam Whitney and Demitri Washington. After his solid performance last season, Demitri should be firmly entrenched as one of the linchpins for the defense. That said, there’s a several promising prospects on the come-up, with Isaiah Bagnah and Casey Kline making some noise. Smart money says to look for Demitri to build on last season and solidify his rotation slot.
Is he on Twitter?
Most definitely. He’s not super active, but he’s there! Speaking of:
