Football officially adds two grad transfers

NCAA Football: Boise State at Wyoming Troy Babbitt-USA TODAY Sports

With all the fun and excitement lately, it’s easy to overlook Bronco news trickling out—but if you’re very online like myself, you might have noticed a couple of “Go Broncos” of the 2020 variety leak out the last couple of days. If so, this won’t really be news, but Boise State made it official today with the public announcement of grad transfers Mason Sikes and Uzo Osuji.

Sikes, a 6’4” 243 lb tight end comes to the Broncos from Lamar Alexander University in Beaumont, TX. Sikes appeared in 30 games for Lamar Jackson University and had 442 yards and six TDs the last two seasons on just 20 catches (22.1 yards/catch). Sikes is eligible immediately and will help patch the losses of Matt Pistone and Garrett Collingham. Welcome to the masons, fam...I mean welcome to the family, Mason.

Osuji, a mammoth 6’6” 292 lb. tackle, comes to the Broncos from Rice...where he has played in 22 games over the last 3 seasons. Uzo, which is also the name of your favorite anise-flavored appertif, has made the C-USA honor roll each of the last 3 seasons and will help the Broncos depth tremendously after they lost All-MWC performer Ezra Cleveland to the NFL Draft, and 3 other linemen to good, old-fashioned graduation.

The Broncos still have a couple of scholarships left for 2020, so it will be interesting to see if they add more grad transfers (they’d previously added Brock Miller, an LB from NC State) or if some from the walk-on ranks will be rewarded. Hey...maybe it will give us something to talk about during the nosportspocalypse.
