2020 Boise State Recruiting Roundup: 2/9/20

NCAA Football: Las Vegas Bowl-Boise State vs Washington Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

It is over, it is (mostly) done.

The 2020 Boise State recruiting class is in the books. The Broncos signed 20 players, leaving about 5 scholarships left. They’ll look to nab another QB, a RB, a TE, OL and I believe a DL. There’s potential to give a scholarship to a walk-on, as they have done in the past.

Cade Fennigan clarified his commitment despite a late push by USC. His information was added back to 247 as well.

The Broncos finished with the #65 class in the nation, about 10 spots behind last years historic haul. Make no mistake, though. This class is loaded with talent and we’re sure to have some stand outs.

Isaiah Bradford, S, Redlands East Valley HS (Redlands, CA)

Based on available stats, Bradford finished the year with 23 total tackles, 16 solo, and 2 passes defended before his season ended due to injury. Right now, it sounds like the plan is to grayshirt Bradford with his planned enrollment being January 2021. We’ll have to see how that plays out.

Bradford noted on his Twitter on the 13th that they performed surgery to repair his torn ACL.

Highlights

Brandon Hernandez, OL, Yucaipa HS (Yucaipa, CA)

Brandon’s season is over after his Thunderbirds finished 3-7. Brandon, while playing offense, picked up some stats on defense. He had 29 total tackles, 12 solo, 1 qb hurry and 1 pass defended. Final season highlights for Brandon aren’t yet available, but I’ll update when they are.

Highlights

Russell Corrigan, TE, Hutchinson Senior HS (Hutchinson, MN)

I finally have stats for Corrigan!

Passing - 36-69 (52.2%) 760 yards 5TDs 4 INT

Rushing - 154 rushes 889 yards (5.8 ypc) 31 TDs 1 fumble

Defensive - 3 Total tackles, 1 INT

Very interesting stat line for a player we recruited at TE. It certainly shows he is an athlete, which is what we like!

Highlights

Donovan Clark, CB, Lincoln HS (Tacoma, WA)

Lincoln lost to Eastside Catholic 21-34 in the semifinals of the Washington 3A State Football Playoffs. Lincoln ends their season at 10-3. Donovan finally seems to have updated stats for the season. He has 21 total tackles, 10 solo, 1 TFL, 1 interception and 5 pass breakups.

Highlights

Kaonohi Kaniho, CB, Kahuku HS (Kahuku, HI)

Kahuku lost to St. Louis 6-45 in the Finals of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Football State Championships. Kahuku ends their season at 9-4 and #42 in the nation. No stats are available for Kaonohi.

Nathan Cardona, OG, Yorba Linda HS (yorba Linda, CA)

Yorba Linda lost to St. Paul in the quarterfinals on Friday 16-28, finishing at 10-2 for the year. Stats are not generally kept for offensive lineman.

Highlights

Robert Cooper, DE, Bethel HS (Spanaway, WA)

Bethel barely lost to Kennewick Friday 20-21, moving to 8-4 for the year. Stats for him aren’t available in the win. The loss ends Bethel’s playoff run. Cooper’s stats are solid: 39 tackles, 5 tackles for loss and 6 sacks through 7 games.

Highlights

LaTrell Caples, WR, Lancaster HS (Lancaster, TX)

The Tigers lost to Lone Star 20-38, ending their playoff run. They finish their season at 11-3. Stats weren’t available in the win. LaTrell had 59 receptions for 1,021 yards (17.3 ypc) and 12 TDs.

Highlights

Riden Leong, OT, Orange Coast College (Honolulu, HI)

The Pirates were shut out by Southwestern 0-41 on Saturday, moving to 1-9. Stats aren’t generally kept for offensive lineman.

The Pirates season is over.

Highlights

Semaj Verner, S, Mayfair HS (Lakewood, CA)

Verner’s Mayfair Monsoons ended their season at 5-6 after losing 12-42 to Chino Hills in the first round of the Divion 5A CIF Southern Section playoffs. Stats for Verner are not yet available.

Highlights

Herbert Gums, DT, Diboll HS (Diboll, TX)

Gums’ Lumberjack squad finished the season 11-1 after losing 6-21 to C.H. Yoe in the Area round of the 2019 TX State 3A D1 Conference Playoffs. Stats for Herbert are not yet available.

Highlights

Austin Bolt, TE, Borah HS (Boise, ID)

Bolt is a consensus 3-star recruit that had a solid set of regional offers, including Utah State, Idaho State, Montana State, Montana, UNLV and Idaho.

Austin earned Idaho’s Gatorade Player of the Year honors after amassing 2,771 yards of total offense and 36 touchdowns. That includes 1,391 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns and 1,380 passing yards and 10 more touchdowns. He also had 62 tackles on defense with 4 interceptions. He literally did everything for the Lions.

The Lions lost to Highland in the 5A State playoff quarterfinals, ending their season at 7-3.

Highlights

Rodney Robinson, CB, Cajon HS (San Bernardino, CA)

Robinson is a 3-star recruit with offers from Washington State, Oregon State, Yale, Princeton, Howard and a handful of MW teams.

Robinson had 80 tackles, a sack and 4 interceptions in helping his Cajon squad to a 9-3 record after a loss to Corona del Mar in the 3A CIF Southern Section state quarterfinals.

Highlights

Shane Irwin, DE, Long Beach City College (Long Beach, CA)

Irwin is a 3-star DE commit out of LBCC. He passed on offers from UNLV, Liberty, New Mexico, SJSU and UTEP to be a Bronco.

LBCC finished 7-3 this season. Shane had 47 total tackles, 25 solo, 14.5 TFL and 8.5 sacks.

Highlights

Divine Obichere, DT, Diboll HS (Long Beach, CA)

Divine is a 3-star commit also out of LBCC where he spent two years on the DL. Obichere passed on offers from Liberty, SJSU and UTEP to be a Bronco. In his two years at LBCC, Divine had 92 tackles, 42 solo, 21 TFL and 10 sacks.

Highlights

Cade Fennegan, QB, Woodrow Wilson HS (Dallas, TX)

Cade is a two-star recruit from Dallas, TX that will be returning from a church mission this summer. Listed at 6’ 1.5” and 162 lbs, Cade was originally committed to North Texas out of high school. He also had offers from Abilene Christian, New Mexico State and Southern Miss.

Cade played varsity for WWHS for 3 years. In his career, he was 469-754 (62.2%) for 6,454 yards, 94 TDs and 30 INTs. He also contributed 796 yards on the ground on 145 carries (5.5 ypc) and 18 more TDs. Senior highlights below.

Kyle Juergens, OL, St. Margaret’s Episcopal School (San Juan Capistrano, CA)

Kyle committed this weekend after previously being a USC commit, but having his offer rescinded after they pulled in too many guys at the position. Listed at 6’ 4.5” and 242 lbs, Kyle also had offers from Arizona State, BYU, SDSU, SJSU, UNLV, Nevada and Northern Arizona.

Kyle played both OL and DL in high school, but was recruited as an OL for the Broncos. His Tartans team went 9-2 after falling in the CIF Southern Section Division 6 Playoffs to Los Altos in the first round. His season stats seem incomplete as he only has stats for 6 games. In those 6 games, he had 34 tackles and 2 sacks on defense. Highlights below.

Brock Miller, LB, North Carolina State (Raleigh, NC)/ John Carroll Catholic HS (Fort Pierce, FL)

Miller is a grad transfer from NC State. Listed at 6’ 3” and 238 lbs, Miller had 40 total tackles, 11 TFL and a sack last season for the Wolfpack.

Out of high school. Miller had an impressive offer list, including BSU as well as Cal, Virginia Tech, Ole Miss, Virginia, Miami, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Mississippi State and Minnesota to name a few. In 2 years on varsity, he had 257 tackles, 175 solo, 88 TFL and 34 sacks. Wowzers. He’ll be a much welcomed and experienced edition to the Broncos.

Jonathan Earl, CB, Golden West College (Huntington Beach, CA)

Listed at 6’3 and 190lbs, Early is another signal that the coaches are going for length in the secondary.

The Rustlers finished the year 5-5, ending the year on a 2-win streak. Earl had 43 tackles, 31 solo, and 2 interceptions.

Cole Wright, WR, Carlsbad HS (Carlsbad, CA)

Cole Wright had an offer from South Dakota State and the Broncos. He obviously made the right choice. Listed at 6’ and 175lbs, Cole’s Carlsbad team had a solid season. They lost to Helix in the CIF San Diego Section State Playoff Championships, and while no one likes losing, 10-2 isn’t a bad record. Cole finished the year with 71 catches for 1,176 yards (16.6 ypc) and 13 TDs.

Keep your eyes peeled for late additions to the ‘20 class. Before the ink dried on the letters of intent for ‘20, the Bronco coaches were already slinging offers out to the ‘21 class, so look for additions to that class too!

GO BRONCOS!
