Over the years, Boise State has been blessed with many talented defensive backs and kick returners; sometimes, the roles are combined and the blessings increase accordingly (shout-out to our boy Chris Carr). Being big fans of defensive playmaking and electric kickoff returns, these special combination playmakers are beloved by the BSU fanbase. Avery Williams is one of those “Man Crushes”.

How’d he get to The BlueTM?
Avery Williams went out and made things happen. Lacking a scholarship offer (but with plenty of moxie), he walked on at Boise State and let his play make a place for him. The coaches noticed, and put him on scholarship just a touch over two years ago.
Nickname
”A&W” It’s going back to a classic that Damien dreamed up in 2017, but it’s smooth and sweet, just like our boy Avery
Look-alike
Casey called it last year, Avery definitely has the easy smile of Anthony Anderson.

Career highlights
Over the past couple of years, Avery has had enough highlights to make a pretty decent hype video, especially considering the variety (thanks to his work as a kick returner AND defensive back). But really, this is THE highlight:

2019 Prospectus
With Tyler Horton graduating after last season, Avery Williams and Jalen Walker, both juniors, are now the presumptive starting cornerback duo. Avery had a solid 2018, with improvement in every statistical category, but 2019 looks to be a defining year. A young but talented roster of backups needs to be anchored by some consistency with a lockdown corner.
While Avery has been electric on returns, needing to step up into the full-time starter role on defense (and the bumper crop of speedy wide receivers) might mean he steps back from the return man role. We’ve got no inside information on that, but logically it seems plausible.
All things considered, Avery is primed for a breakout 2019 with the spotlight squarely on him.

Completely made up fact
Avery Williams doesn’t own a car, bike, or scooter; he prefers to run everywhere to stay in shape for the season.
