Boise State roster countdown 2018: Day 24, Andrew Van Buren

NCAA Football: Boise State at San Diego State Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

The best part of this whole thing is to see the days to kickoff tick downward. It’s almost surreal seeing this number get smaller. But now that we have 24 days till kickoff we are going to talk about a guy how is going to be pretty new to the Blue. For the record, he’ll be wearing #21 on The Blue™, but we didn’t know that when we made the countdown spreadsheet...AND Tyreque Jones also has that number—so, you’re getting Andrew Van Buren three days early!

#24, Andrew Van Buren, Freshman, RB

Stats

Height: 6

Weight: 227

High School: Chaminade Prep, West Hills, CA

How’d he get to The BlueTM?

By being one of the best incoming running backs to land at Boise State.

Mr. Van Buren was the second of two RBs that committed with hours of each other last August. Zidane Thomas did commit first, but then decided he wanted to do something else. Van Buren stuck out his commitment and signed in December.

Van Buren was a three-star running back for ESPN and Rivals. 247Sports had bumped him up to four stars. He was the 38th-best running back nationally and California’s 77th-best player overall.

As a senior he ran for 1,259 yards in 11 games and had 21 touchdowns. He was also the Mission League Offensive MVP as a senior.

Nickname

”AVB”

Alien versus.... Bros?

Look-alike

John Boyega

Oh I am so stoked for AVB to use the Force while on the football field (yes, I realize that Finn isn’t necessarily a Force user, but for our purposes he is).

Career highlights

He doesn’t have any current Boise State highlights (but if you are able to check his clips from the fall camp, you can see him do work).

His highlights above aren’t anything to shake a stick at though. This section should fill up in due course.

2018 Prospectus

It’s super-easy right now to say that, if a kid is talented enough, that he’s going to play. And, well, in this case Mr. Van Buren is going to get his chance. Rumbling into camp at 6’ and 227 he is... stout. Not sure where he’s going to put any more muscle, but I assume that Coach Pittman is going to help Van Buren find a place.

While Alexander Mattison and Robert Mahomes are clear one-two, the rest are pretty open. Shaddox and Seibold will get their carries but will also see some push from Van Buren. And he is expected to get his fair share as a true freshman. Will those carries get him over the four game hump though? I suppose that depends on injuries. Provided everyone stays relatively healthy Van Buren should only get his four games worth and we should see a shutdown.

But no one would blink an eye if he were to go further.

Is he on Twitter?

Yes. And he’s got baseball opinions. I don’t so it’s whatever to me.

Completely made up fact

In the English language, the word ‘set’ holds the most definitions. Andrew Van Buren just as the one: Presidential.
