NCAA Football: Poinsettia Bowl- Boise State vs Northern Illinois Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

We are now half way through the 30s. Is this flying by or what? Let’s brush up on redshirt freshman #35 Derriyon Shaw.

#35, Derriyon Shaw, RS Freshman, DE

Stats

Height: 6’ 2”

Weight: 227 lbs. (-3lbs)

High School: Legacy High School, Las Vegas, NV

How'd he get to The Blue™?

Shaw passed on offers from Wake Forest, Arizona State, UNC, Nevada and UNLV to name a few. He committed to the Broncos on November first and held firm. That’s a solid offer list if I do say so myself.

Nickname

Career highlights

Shaw redshirted for the Broncos last year, but had a stellar career at Legacy. He was named to the USA TODAY High School Sports' All-USA Nevada First Team after his 48 tackle and 7 sack senior season. He was also selected to the NevadaPreps.com All-State Second Team, All-Region First Team and All-Southwest League First Team after his senior campaign.

2017 prospectus

Shaw is listed as a DE, but did not appear on the most recent depth chart. I suspect that he still has a bit of rehabbing to do after his injury, but fall should be a good time for him to show what he’s got.

Right now, Durrant Miles is listed as the started at DE. Behind him, Chase Hatada and Kayode Rufai are listed as ORs. Another thing to note is Shaw is listed at 227, which is quite a bit lighter than the other defensive ends. I’m wondering if they are possibly thinking of moving him, though I’m not sure where to. There is a glut of talent at LB with more arriving in Boyd, Noa and Whimpey. It will be interesting to watch for sure.

Is he on Twitter?

Indeed he is, however his account is locked. Follow him here!

Completely made up fact

Shaw wrestled a bear once. He now owns a bear skin rug.
