NCAA Football: Boise State at Oregon State Cole Elsasser-USA TODAY Sports

Football recruiting is a cutthroat business. Any perceived advantage is pressed to persuade an impressionable youngster to decide where he wants to go. Tonight the Broncos nabbed a (non-binding verbal) commit in a huge way. And he was so excited to let everyone know what he was doing, he announced his commitment before the customary “Go Broncos” Tweet from Coach Harsin.

Mr. Emmsley hails from Kapolei HS in Kapolei, HI. The 6’ 5” 230 lb defensive end/outside linebacker (depending on which recruiting service you want to use) has decided to follow in the footsteps of his uncle, Loa Emmsley, and matriculate to Boise State.

Kukea is a consensus three-star recruit among Rivals, 247Sports, and Scout. He also had a couple of “cut it close” offers with the likes of Oregon and Oregon State trying to woo him for his ability to “be awesome.” He also received offers from all three of the military academies in Air Force, Navy, and Army. Hawaii (duh), Utah State, and Fresno State round out his bevy of Mountain West offers. Surprisingly enough Kukea was actually able to turn down an offer from—wait for it—Idaho. Really dodged a bullet on that offer.

This commitment is adding another “big” get to the Broncos 2018 recruiting class and is another piece to an impressive defensive side of the ball. For those keeping count, of the seven current commits, five are on defense.

The earliest Mr. Emmsley can be “officially official” (and the Broncos can openly start talking about him) is in the December early signing period. Until then, we can only cross our fingers his commitment sticks.

So congratulations to Mr. Emmsley on making the right choice to start the path of becoming a Bronco. Welcome aboard!
