Boise State roster countdown 2017: Day 42, Clay Bowler

NCAA Football: UNLV at Boise State Brian Losness-USA TODAY Sports

We are just about ready to close out the 40s. Let’s check in on walk-on #42 Clay Bowler.

#42, Claw Bowler, True Freshman, LB

Height: 6’

Weight: 196 lbs.

High School: Holtville High School, Holtville, CA

How'd he get to The Blue™?

Clay took it upon himself to walk-on, as well he should. He had a pretty stellar career at Holtville, but we’ll get to that farther down.

I had a lot of names come into my head, but this is the one I’m going with.

Jason Segel

Career highlights

He was a do-everything player for Holtville. He played QB, RB and LB. He was the Manzanita League Offensive POY after throwing for 1,041 yards and 16 TDs and rushing for 1,971 yards and 27 TDs. He also finished his career with 79 tackles.

2017 prospectus

The LB position will be interesting this year with the graduation of Vallejo, Weaver and Lee and the departure of Joe Martarano. that leaves Leighton Vander Esch as the defacto leader of the LB corps.

Whitlock will see plenty of play time, as will Maeva. Desmond Williams had a solid spring and should see the field plenty. Beyond those guys, there are a lot of talented walk-ons looking to make their mark.

As a true freshman, I honestly expect Clay to redshirt, barring a crazy fall camp or once in a millennia injuries to the starters.

Is he on Twitter?

I wasn’t able to find a handle for him, so if you know of one, let us know. This, however, is cool.

Completely made up fact

Clay’s last name has given him the power to ONLY bowl 300-point games. EVERY. TIME.
