How about this summer, huh? It is quite a thing. You know the thing about summers is that they eventually merge into the fall. So with 53 days left until football we have—Sam Whitney
#53, Sam Whitney, RS Sophmore, STUD
Height: 6’ 2”
High School: Folsom HS, Folsom, CA
How'd he get to the Blue™?
Mr. Whitney was lightly recruited out of high school. He only had two offers, Boise State and Sacramento State, and some interest with Colorado. He was a three-star recruit on Scout, while a two-star with Rivals. Whitney was committed to Sacramento State up until a week before signing day. The Broncos made an offer but it was more of a grayshirt opportunity. Alls well that ends well, of course, as Whitney officially redshirted the 2015 season.
Because I’m trying really hard at making puns.
In a Broncos jersey he has recorded five tackles while appearing in five games. In his senior year of high school he had 47 tackles including 13 sacks. This helped guide his squad go 16-0 in CIF Division I that also included a state title. That effort also netted him the Sacramento Bee's All-Metro Defensive Player of the Year and league MVP in 2014. So he’s pretty good.
I feel as though the STUD (STand Up enD) is my favorite position for the Broncos. Could be the name of the position itself, but I feel it’s more because some of my favorite Broncos are STUDs: Kamalei Correa, Sam McCaskill, Demarcus Lawrence (who I am considering a STUD for reasons). The STUD position has the feel of some of the Broncos’ best athletes and difference makers. Mr. Whitney has that opportunity. though he only had five games under his belt last year, he’s primed to play heavily in the rotation wth Gabe Perez and Jabril Frazier. I would pencil Perez to start at the STUD but Whitney doing all he can to push Perez, and Frazier, to be better.
Is he on Twitter?
Yes. Yes he is.
Completely made up fact
They say it is impossible to lick your own elbow. Sam Whitney LAUGHS at the impossible. He still can’t lick his own elbow but he certainly tries super hard.
