Boise State gets second 2018 verbal commit with Brandon Hawkins

NCAA Football: Poinsettia Bowl- Boise State vs Northern Illinois Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

On Sunday, Head Coach Bryan Harsin sent up the new Bronco recruit signal for everyone to start getting hyped.

Of course, after that, things kind of went silent. Recruits have certain ways of releasing this type of news. Sometimes recruits will make their respective announcement before Boise State sends up the flares. Sometimes the timing works out a little closer to each other.

We also get the extreme of “silent” commits where the athlete wants to be able to announce on his respective terms (which is fine, just frustrating). While there may be rumblings of who it may be, without an official word speculation is the only recourse.

But, in this case, we have our guy making it official!

The state of Texas has always been kind to Boise State and that success does not seem to be dwindling.

Mr. Brandon Hawkins is rated a three-star recruit by Rivals, 247Sports, and Scout, and looking at his offer sheet, it appears his interest may heat up once his senior season hits. Hawkins has offers from fellow Mountain West Conference teams such as Air Force, and New Mexico (he also has an offer from Colorado State, but they are a Big XII school so they don’t count here). Hawkins also has offers from Arkansas State, Army, Navy, Houston, and a Power 5 offer in Indiana. While garnering some interest in other schools like Baylor and Purdue.

In 2016 Mr. Hawkins had 132 total tackles, 13 tackle-for-loss, six pass-break-ups, and two forced fumbles. He is going to be a welcome addition to the Boise State linebacker corp.

And, if memory services, Boise State and the surname “Hawkins” does have a certain ring to it.
