City of Threes: Boise State sets record

NCAA Basketball: Boise State at Fresno State Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

While we missed posting a game recap last night (apologies) we still wanted to respect what the Broncos did last night.

In their 98-70 shellacking of Air Force last night, the Broncos set a school record for the number of 3’s made in a game.

TWENTY. They made 20 3-pointers. That is 61% of the points that they scored total last night. Shooting nearly 60% from the floor is a feat, but from beyond the arc is just crazy pants. Reid lead the way in the endeavor, going 8-15, accounting for all but 2 of his points. Duncan followed his lead, hitting 5-7.

As you can see from the above tweet that it also tied the MW record. After searching for the last hour, I can’t determine when the previous record was set. If you, loyal Nuggies, happen to when that happened, please indulge us in the comments. Inquiring minds want to know.

Boise State gets a first round bye in the MW Tournament since they finished in 3rd place. Not bad considering they were picked to finish 5th at the beginning of the season.

I don’t think the Broncos could have gotten a more favorable tournament slate. They beat every team on their side of the bracket and went 4-6 against the other. They will face the winner of the SDSU-UNLV game on Thursday March 9th at 9:30MT. They would presumably face Colorado State in the semifinals if they were to win that one. Let’s hope they can continue on the success from beyond the arc they had yesterday. Go Broncos!
