FINAL BSU 73 UTAH 68
Wow. That was awesome. If you disagree, well, go re-watch it.
BSU went on a 15-1 run at the end of the game to pull out the first round NIT win, their first since March of 2004. They were also 12-point underdogs heading into the game.
Lead by none other than Chandler Hutchison, posting a career best 34 points. I want to say he hit up the Konami Code before the game. He also had 5 rebounds and an assist. Dickinson had a huge game, contributing 12 crucial points and 2 more rebounds. Haney stepped up as well, playing like the big man Boise needs.
If you look below, the stats aren’t eye-popping: 45% on FG, 19% from 3-pt and 67% from FT. A big difference was points off turnovers. BSU had 17 to Utah’s 6. The Broncos did a good job turning turnovers into points. They also had 27 points from the bench to Utah’s 11. It’s nice when your bench players can do work.
Huge kudos to the Broncos for not giving up, down 5 with 6 minutes left to turn it around big time. This also notches a 5th 20-win season in Rice and the Broncos belts in the last 5 seasons.
They take on #2 seed Illinois in the round of 16 of the NIT Tournament. GO BRONCOS!
