Boise State headed to Las Vegas in tilt against Oregon

NCAA Football: Las Vegas Bowl-Houston vs San Diego State Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

In what certainly looks to be no shortage of “The Punch” jokes, or some fun basketball storylines, Boise State will be headed down to Las Vegas to face off against the Oregon Ducks in the Vegas Bowl on Saturday, December 16th.

After the Broncos captured the Mountain West Conference title last night against Fresno State, Boise State was all but assured a spot in the MWC’s first bowl tie-in (refer to the handy-dandy char issued by the conference to see the flow).

The next step would be to find out who the matchup would be against. With the University of Washington getting the no. 11 spot in the final CFP rankings, and a NY6 bowl game that goes with it, this moved up the bowl rotation for the Pac-12 up a slot and the Ducks landing in Vegas.

Boise State was, apparently, clued in to the matchup and let ticket holders know about the game.

The last time the two schools met on the field was Chip Kelly’s debut as a head coach, Boise State winning 19-8 and, well, someone getting decked.

Also, as a fun aside, newly-minted Nebraska head coach, Scott Frost, was also in attendance.

What a small world.

If you are able to go to the game it is highly recommended that you purchase tickets through the school. Though more costly, this helps Boise State fulfill its contractual obligations to get rid of a certain number of tickets. And it can give the school a boost. However it is understandable if someone were to do a double-take at the cost.

Congratulations, again, the Broncos as they look to end the season on a high note and as a springboard to next year.

Viva Las Vegas!
