Bowl Projections: Boise State staying home for bowl season?

We are halfway through the season and the bowl picture is starting shape up a little more each week.

Boise State is now at 4-2 after the big upset win over San Diego State. 2 more wins and they become bowl eligible for 16th straight season. The Broncos have some big games ahead of them at home against Wyoming(4-2) AT Colorado State(4-2) at Fresno State (4-2). But if they proved anything with their win over SDSU this past weekend, it's that Boise State is still the team to beat in the Mountain West Conference.

With That being said let's take a look at where the "Experts" think we will be going bowling.

Las Vegas Bowl (Dec. 16th)

Sam Boyd Stadium, Las Vegas, NV

ESPN's Kyle Bonagura: Boise State vs. Arizona State

This would by far be the best non-NY6 bowl that the Broncos could end up in. The Las Vegas Bowl usually goes to the conference champion. However this is not always the case. This could be a rematch of the 56-24 whooping we put on ASU in the 2011 Las Vegas Bowl.

Matchup Rating: A-

New Mexico Bowl (Dec. 16th)

Albequerque, NM

CBS' Jerry Palm: Louisiana Tech vs. Boise State

Sports Nation's Jason Kirk

Boise has never been to the New Mexico Bowl before. Honestly it's because usually New Mexico or some other mediocre team ends up here It is definitely not the best bowl destination but also not the worst. It would be kinda cool to play our old WAC conference foe LA Tech.

Matchup Rating: B-

Famous Idaho Potato Bowl (Dec. 22nd)

Lyle Smith Field at Albertsons Stadium, Boise, Idaho

ESPN's David Hale: Western Michigan vs. Boise State

SI's Eric Single: Ohio vs. Boise State

BSU hasn't gone bowling at home since we lost to Matt Ryan and his Boston College team in the 2005 MPC computers bowl. That was all the way back in the Dan Hawkins era. Although it would be nice to have home field advantage It's always fun to go play somewhere warm. Again the Potato bowl isn't the best bowl by any means but definitely not the worst. I really don't see BSU playing this one as they have actively avoided doing so in years past. The Matchup with Western Michigan would have been much more intriguing last year but it would still be a decent opponent. Ohio just doesn't bring the same kind of excitement as other options.

Matchup Rating:

  • WMU - B
  • Ohio - B-

Hawaii Bowl (Dec 24th)

Aloha Stadium Honolulu, HI

USA Today's Eric Smith: Boise State vs. Memphis

Last but definitely not least, The Hawaii Bowl. This has basically become the bowl for Hawaii/the MWC runner up. If SDSU or CSU get the Las Vegas bowl, this would really be the next best landing spot for the Broncos. First off, it's freaking Hawaii! Secondly, BSU does have some experience playing in the Hawaii Bowl before so it would be a location that they know. If we miss out on the Las Vegas bowl I think Boise would lobby to get picked for this one. a matchup with Memphis would actually be a really solid game. Memphis is currently ranked and should finish as one of the better teams in the AAC.

Matchup Rating: A

Tell me what you think. What bowl game will the Broncos end up in and who will they be pitted against?
