2017 Boise State Recruiting Roundup: 1/30/17

You guys...this is the last Recruiting Roundup before signing day. The rectuiting scramble is nearing its end and this class is shaping up nicely.

We got two new commits this weekend while losing one. There is some conjecture that the one we lost is because of one of the commits we gained, but unfortunately one of the commits is silent.

This is not the last Recruiting Roundup for the 2017 class. We will do a retrospective after everyone has signed. Let’s check out the class.

Jermani Brown, ATH, Midlothian HS (Midlothian, VA)

They have finally begun upstaing Jermani’s stats! So far he has offensive stats against Freeman: 7 catches for 52 yards. I expect more soon.

Marques Evans, DB, Newbury Park HS (Newbury Park, CA)

Marques finished his senior season with 38 total tackles, 28 solo, 2 interceptions, a fumble recovery, 7 passes defended, 1 blocked field goal and 1 tackle for loss. He also had 8 receptions for 136 yards and 2 TDs.

Isiah Moore, OT, Mesa CC (Mesa, AZ)

Stats for Isiah weren’t kept as he was an offensive lineman. Isiah is listed as a soft verbal on Scout.com. *UPDATE* Moore reaffirmed his commitment this morning. Many had speculated (myself included) that Moore would not end up signing with the Broncos as he had grown quiet about his commitment. That appears to not be the case.

Scout has him listed as a 4* recruit while Rivals has him as a 2* recruit. Weird.

Breydon Boyd, LB, Katy HS (Katy, TX)

I was finally able to get Breydon’s season stats! I missed 6 games this season with a broken hand/wrist. He did, however, still manage to get in 51 tackles, 26 solo, 2 TFL and 3 sacks. I’d say that was pretty productive! He has some highlights on HUDL, but for whatever reason they crash the blog when I post the link. Just use the google machine to find them.

Michael Young, DB, Dodge City CC (Dodge City, KS)

Dodge City finished the regular season with a 28-21 win over Hutchinson, finishing 7-4. Michael had 4 total tackles, 2 solo and .5 tackles for loss in the win. He has 42 total tackles, 28 solo, 3 TFL, 2 fumbles caused, 1 recovered, 2 INTs, 6 pass break-ups and 3 kicks blocked.

Chase Cord, QB, Sunrise Mountain HS (Peoria, AZ)

Chase’s totals for the season, are as follows: 149 of 249 (59.8%) for 2,721 yards, 38 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. He also had 74 rushes for 155 yards and 6 more TDs.

For his career, he finished 528 of 829 (63.7%) for 9,493 yards, 137 TDs and 20 INTs. He also had 40 carries for 391 yards and 38 more TDs. That’s 175 TDs accounted for in his HS career. CRAZY.

Chase also played in the Blue & Grey All-American game earning MVP after throwing three TDs in the win.

Mike Young, OT, Queen Creek HS (Queen Creek, AZ)

Michael ends his senior season with 53 tackles, 25 solo, 5 TFL, 1 sack, 2 INTs (one for a TD), 2 passes defended and 2 fumbles recovered.

Quentin Brown, LB, Conroe HS (Conroe, TX)

Stats aren’t available for Quentin at this time. Still not up-to-date highlights either. Quentin is also now listed as a soft verbal after taking a visit to Tulane.

Tyreque Jones DB, San Gorgonio HS (San Bernardino, CA)

Tyreque finishes his senior year with 31 carries for 209 yards and 2 TD, 48 receptions for 1,033 yards and 15 TDs, 67 total tackles, 48 solo, 2 TFL, 2 INTs and 2 fumbles caused. Tyreque could play on either side of the ball and excel at the next level. He’ll be an exciting player to watch for the Broncos.

Cartrell Thomas, WR, Lancaster HS (Lancaster, TX)

I was finally able to find stats for Cartrell! He finished his senior season with 3 carries for 65 yards and 60 receptions for 1,205 yards and 15 TDs.

John Ojukwu, OL, Boise HS (Boise, ID)

MaxPreps has some stats for John, but it is only listing him as playing one game. It says he had one tackle against Ridgevue in August. Not sure if that means he was injured that game or they just quit taking stats.

Boise finished 4-5 overall, 2-3 in conference. John is listed at a massive 6’6 285lbs. He’ll be a welcome addition to the O-line.

Rathen Ricedorff, QB, Mesa CC (Mesa, AZ)

Listed at 6’1 200lbs, Rathen played at Mesa CC where he earned 1st team All-NJCCA All-American honors, which is no small feat. He completed 282 of 434 pass attempts (64.98%) for 3,688 yards, 42 TDs and just 7 interceptions. His highlights are incredibly impressive. What stands out is his ability to extend plays and how well he leads the receiver. Very rarely did a receiver need to break stride to catch a ball from him.

Zach Troughton, OL, Butte CC (Oroville, CA)

Listed at 6’5 315lbs, Zach is a massive addition to the line. His Butte team lost to American River in the NorCal Championship game 9-15, finishing 9-3 on the year. Zach earned 1st team All-American CC Football team honors.

Roman Kafentzis, S, Mater Dei HS (Santa Ana, CA)

Roman finished his senior year with 49 total tackles, 38 solo, 10.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks and an interception.

Aisa Kelemete, DE, Highland HS (Pocatello, ID)

Welcome back Aisa! Aisa’s stat have yet to be updated. I’ll post when they are available.

Kekaula Kaniho, DB, Kahuku HS (Kahuku, HI)

Kekaula finished his senior season with 26.5 tackles, 3.5 TFL, 6 INTs, 1 fumble caused, 3 fumbles recovered, 7 pass break-ups and 5 defensive touchdowns.

Ezekiel Noa, LB, Helix HS (La Mesa, CA)

We got a commit from Zeke this week. Noa is a HUGE pickup and a position of need for the Broncos. Listed at 6’0 and 230lbs, he passed on offers from Colorado, Wisconsin, Washington State, SDSU, Colorado State and Nevada.

He finished his senior season with 62 carries for 640 yards and 6 TDs, 15 receptions for 152 yards and 3 TDs, and while I’m having difficulty finding his defensive stats, he had at least one interception returned for 18 yards. Noa was also the San Diego Section CIF Defensive Player of the Year the past two years as well as the Grossmont Hills League DPOY.

Noa’s Highlanders made it all the way to the State Championships, but fell 35-27 to Cathedral Catholic in the finals. Noa was absent with a season-ending injury sustained against Rancho Bernardo in the semifinals. They finished 10-3 on the year.

Drake Beasley, RB, La Cañada HS (La Canada, CA)

Beasley is a massive get for the Broncos, who are losing 3 running backs this year. In case you weren’t aware, Demas graduated, Young transferred and McNichols declared for the draft. Beasley eases that pain immensely, along with Mattison having a solid campaign and Mahone coming off a redshirt. Wolpin rounds out a solid RB corp.

Beasley is listed at 5’11” 185lbs and passed on offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, Cornell, Oregon State, Pitt, Purdue and UCLA to name a few.

Beasley flew a bit under-the-radar this year due to an unfortunate situation with his transfer from Loyola to La Cañada. Earlier this summer he was listed as a 4-star RB, but due to having to sit out his final season, recruiting cooled on him a bit. His Spartans finished 6-4, though he did not play the entire season.

As a junior, Beasley was California 1st team All-State after rushing for 1,647 yards on 6.6 yards per carry and 17 TDs. His highlights tell the story.

Octavius Evans, WR, Center HS (Center, TX)

Octavius gave the Broncos his commitment yesterday and announced it today. Listed at 6’3 195lbs, he’ll be a big target for the Bronco quarterbacks. He passed on offers from Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Indiana and Mississippi State to name a few.

He finished his senior campaign with 66 catches for 852 yards and 6 TDs
