Boise State numerical roster countdown 2016: Day 96, Elliot Hoyte

Troy Babbitt-USA TODAY Sports

We all know him. We all love him. He's our player from across the pond. Let's check in on Elliot Hoyte.

#96, Elliot Hoyte, RS Senior, DT

Elliot Hoyte

Height: 6'4"

Weight: 276 lbs (+5)

High School: Ivybridge CC

How'd he get to The Blue™?

He traveled through night and day and in and out of weeks and almost over a year to where the Blue Turf is. He traveled from Tavistock, England, where he played for coach Paul Dangerfield (the long lost 3rd cousin twice removed of Rodney Dangerfield). He was named first team All-Europe at DE, which sounds crazy impressive. He was a highly touted recruit coming in.

I think that's what you're supposed to call people from England. That or "Your Majesty" if my memory serves me correctly.

I know we said this last year, but he really does look like him

Career highlights

This best season, from a stat perspective, would looks to be his RS sophomore season in which he played in all 14 games and started one of them. He had 16 total tackles, including 3.5 sacks and 4 TFL. Last year there was a glut of talent at the DT position, so Elliot found himself splitting a lot of time with a lot of people. He has 13 tackles, 8 of them solo, along with 1.5 TFL and half a sack. As I stated earlier, he was named to the All-Europe team in high school in England.

2016 Prospectus

I see no reason why Elliot won't be a starter this fall. Honestly the only thing keeping him from starting is a stellar showing by a younger player or an (knocks on wood) injury.

It really is his job to lose at this point, especially considering his time spent with the program. For those of you not aware, Elliot gray shirted AND red shirted, so this will be his 6th season as a Bronco, technically speaking. I could very easily see one of the true freshman sneaking in next to Elliot since the most senior person AFTER Hoyte would be David Moa or Paul Sermons. I expect Moa to nab that spot, but being that he has not played much himself, I think that second spot is wide open.

I remember when Elliot was first announced as a prospect. I read that he was the most physically gifted prospect we had ever seen. That obviously isn't verbatim, but I was instantly a Hoyte fan. He's definitely paid is dues and now it will be his time to shine.

Is he on Twitter?

Indeed he is, and this tweet confirms that he weighs well over what Broncosports says he weighs...

Completely made up fact

Elliot is not a fan of tea, which is odd for his heritage. He does, however, absolutely adore crumpets*.

*Orignally I had the word "strumpets" in here as a play on the movie Dumb and Dumber. I feel like most people would understand the reference. Well I did that not realizing that strumpets were actually a thing...
