Boise State tennis player Tony Mitchell nabs Mountain West Conference honor

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Sometimes we swing and hit. Other times we miss. This week in the Boise State Game Balls, I whiffed big time by not recognizing some outstanding tennis play. Thankfully the Mountain West Conference did NOT miss (this time) as they dole out their respective players of the week.

Boise State tennis senior, Mitchell, also did not miss much in the last two matches for the Broncos as he was tabbed as the MWC player of the week. This is the second recognition for Boise State men's tennis on the year and follows up last week honoree Kyle Butters. Mr. Mitchell was able to ensure victories for the Broncos over the Air Force Falcons and the New Mexico Lobos. These wins have tied together a nice four-match winning streak and have the Broncos winning five of their last six matches. The wins bode well for the Broncos as they have their next six matches at home, and then the Mountain West Conference championships at the end of April.

In singles, Mr. Mitchell was a spotless 2-0 and in doubles he split 1-1 with a win over the Lobos (coupled with Kyle Butters). The singles wins put Mitchell 12-14 on the year (with one did not finish). Mitchell and doubles partner Kyle Butters are 13-7 and several did not finishes.

Congratulations to Mr. Mitchell on getting recognized for some really well done tennis!
