Broncos fall to Colorado State; exit Mountain West tournament in quarterfinals

Bounced

Brian Losness-USA TODAY Sports

Final: #3 Boise State 81, #6 Colorado State 88

Well, that was something. After 17 lead changes and an absolute barrage of 3-pointers from the Rams, Colorado State finally emerged victorious in one of the better games of the MWC tournament so far. James Webb III got in foul trouble early (2 within the first 3 minutes) and stayed that way late, so other Broncos were forced to pick up the slack—something Nick Duncan did well for the Broncos. Duncan led the Broncos in both points (23) and rebounds (6) while James Webb, Anthony Drmic, and Mikey Thompson all poured in double figure tallies. Ultimately, the play of CSU seniors Antwan Scott (23 pts) and Tiel Daniels (14 rebounds) sunk the Bronco battleship. Once again, the MWC refs did BSU no favors down the stretch, but in the absence of a colossal screw up like the one in Fort Collins, you really can't pin this too much on the stripes (Boise State had a five minute scoring drought near the game's conclusion). It was a game of surges, and the Rams surged last and they surged best. Boise State will not be headed back to the NCAAs and now will wait to see if a rubber trip to Vegas is in the cards for the Vegas16. Oh, and IF this happens to be the last game of the season for our boys in blue...Anthony Drmic will fall a solitary 3-pointer from breaking Boise State's all-time scoring record. Let's get him one more shot. Full stats below.
