Boise State whips Wyoming 94-71

Brian Losness-USA TODAY Sports

Heading into this game there were a lot of questions regarding the Colorado State game. Some serious, some snarky. But it is imperative for the Broncos to get their mojo back and make a run for the Mountain West tournament. The Colorado State win loss puts them in to fourth place and in a dangerous spot to play on the opening round of the MWC tournament. No team has ever won the tournament playing the first day. The Broncos had the ability to come back from the loss against Colorado State.

The Broncos opened the game well enough jumping ahead 5-0. Thompson started things off right by draining a three. Wyoming started off struggling and missed their first five shots. The Cowboys did not get on the board till the 16:11 mark in the first half. The defensive effort the Broncos put forth was palpable. Their energy was focused on not letting the Cowboys take this game.

As sloppy as the Broncos were playing on the offensive end, they made up for it with their defensive effort limited Wyoming shots. Wyoming's Alan Herndon was 0-3 at the 7:30 mark. Josh Adams was 1-6. Jeremy Lieberman had missed his only shot. Coupled with the four turnovers the Broncos were able to force, the Cowboys could never get in a rhythm.

The Cowboys never held the lead in the first half. They never could get more than within three and even let the Broncos extend to a 12 point lead with over 6 minutes in the half.

Lonnie Jackson was on fire for the Broncos hitting 3-4 on his field goals, 3-3 from three, adding an assist and a rebound.

Webb had 7 points on 2-5 shooting and three free throws, and 8 rebounds.

Wyoming's Hayden Dalton led the Cowboys with 10 points and 3 rebounds. He was 3-4 on field goals and 4-4 on free throws.

Alexander Gorski had 5 points, and a rebound. He also led the Cowboys with three fouls in the first half.

The second got off to a Wyoming streak. They had hit 7-9 of their field goals and 3-4 of their threes before the 12 minute mark. The Broncos had let the second half lead shrink back to three. The Broncos were able to stem the tide of the Wyoming run with Drmic hitting a layup to get the Bronco lead back up to five, 59-54. Which opened the floodgates for the Broncos as they went into a 17-10 run to extend their lead 74-61 at the 13 minute mark.

Webb had ended the night with 21 points, 11 rebounds, an assist, a block, and a steal.

Jackson had 16 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists. Jackson had a hit a game-leading 4-5 from the three.

Wyoming's Josh Adams had 16 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals.

The Broncos could have let the Colorado State game affect the outcome of this one versus Wyoming. As it turns out, it appears they have let it galvanize them and send the Cowboys home packing.
