USA Today did a piece on Coach Pete and Boise

Some may find it interesting. Some might not.

DSG has season ending shoulder surgery

Obviously not ideal, but if earlier in the season is any indication, Cameron Hartsfield could be called upon to fill the gap, and he proved to be a more-than-serviceable backup option.

The Famous Idaho Potato Bowl happened yesterday

It was a thing that occurred. The Vandals won, continuing their charmed season. There were a couple of OBNUG writers in attendance, mostly for the purpose of making snarky commentary on the proceedings.

Kind of an exceptional bummer for Vandal fans that left, apparently. It seems things kicked off even more late in the game. I left myself with about 2 minutes left in the 3rd, and the Vandals were up 41-7. We were at Mazzah, eating, less than a half hour later, and when I checked to see the score...the final quarter had involved 8 (!!) combined touchdowns, to reach a final of 61-50. Pretty cool for the Vandals that stayed, but then this happened:

Okay, let’s just take a few deep breaths and consider some things Vandals: 1) U of I is only 2-0 this year against MW teams that combined for 8 losses in-conference alone, and 2) this is only their 4th winning season in TWENTY. It’s unlikely that even the Sun Belt would invite them back after just a singular, winning season.

And that’s at least 10x more than I wanted to talk about U of I this season, but I got free tickets to the game, football is still football, and even with zero rooting interest in either side...it was still a night at my second home: The Blue.
