Bronco offense stifled in Charleston Classic opener

NCAA Basketball: Charleston Classic-Charleston v Boise State Joshua S. Kelly-USA TODAY Sports

Final: Boise State 47, College of Charleston 60

Well, that was a giant bowl of yuck. The Broncos just couldn’t get their offense started against College of Charleston and quickly fell back to .500 on the season with an opening round loss at the Gildan Charleston Classic. Bronco junior Chandler Hutchison led all scorers with 24 points and also recorded his second double-double of the year by pitching in 12 rebounds, but didn’t get much help from his teammates in the scoring department as he scored over HALF the points for the Broncos this evening. If you’re looking for more reasons for the poor Boise State showing, 4-22 is another good place to start—that’s the number of 3-pointers the Broncos made in relation to how many they attempted.

Silver linings are few, but as we’ve intimated before...this is a young team looking for a fresh batch of leaders after losing players like Anthony Drmic and James Webb III. Paris Austin and Nick Duncan had 6 and 9 points, respectively and the Broncos DID win on the boards, with 37 rebounds to the Cougars’ 36, but bench-wise Boise State got spanked...with FIVE players contributing ZERO points to College of Charleston’s two players with no offensive contributions.

You aren’t going to win many games putting up 47 points, and the Broncos must use these early season games to figure out who’s going to pitch in and who needs more pine-riding in their regimen. Full Bronco stats below.
