The Mountain West Conference basketball season is almost upon us. And, to that end, the conference has released the preseason projected finishes for the teams.
The Broncos are second only to last year’s champion Colorado State Rams. Boise State did manage to net 11 first place votes. The Broncos have been have quite the strong run the previous years and this one should be no different.
Should look forward to this #BoiseState WBB season. 4 starters, 5 of top 6 scorers, top 2 rebounders back from last yr's 19-11 team.— Aaron Juarez (@ajuarezbsu) October 26, 2016
One of those top scorers? Would be Brooke Pahukoa. Ms. Pahukoa had Averaged 13.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game in Conference play. Ms. Pahukoa was also selected as this years all-MWC preseason team. The senior (and her twin sister Brittney Pahukoa) are coming into their final year wearing the orange and blue. look for them to end on a positive note.
Shalen Shaw (she goes by “Shay”) had 265 rebounds last year (8.8 rebounds/game), which was good for second in the Mountain West and 104th out of the whole NCAA.
Yaiza Rodriguez, the other senior of the bunch, had 172 assists for Boise State. That total was 2nd in the Mountain West and 41st in the NCAA.
Head Coach Gordy Presnell has a solid group going into this season. With two new faces that have to sit out a year (Ellie Woener and A’Shanit Coleman) next years team will be laden with a lot of experience.
Good luck to the Broncos as they try and put together an NCAA run like they did two years ago.
