Notes and Wild Speculation
- DJ Dean is perpetually second behind Sperbeck. But always out on game day. Am curious if Cottrell will ever be the official back up to Sperbeck. Curious if we will ever see Dean again. Hopefully whatever ails him he is able to bounce back soon. Hate to see a guy's name consistently on the chart, but never see the field.
- With Bacon officially quitting the team, Lewis gets the slot behind Odhiambo. Sad to see Bacon not around anymore (isn't that against the law, or something?) but if he is not happy where he is, he needs to find it. It takes a lot of emotional intelligence, and strength, to acknowledge at a young age that what you are doing is just not right for you. I hope he finds his success in his next journey. To Bacon: Once a Bronco, Always a Bronco!!
- Hopefully with the new "gelling" of the starting QB, Lewis will be able to fix the issues from the BYU game. Seeing his name all over the line is good that the coaches not only trust Lewis, but also keep these guys flexible so that they can contribute wherever they are needed. I have no doubt that Lewis will see more playing time, it just a matter of when (and at what position).
- Rypien is the clear starter. All that needs to be said there.
- McNair is not on depth chart due to injury. Apparently this happened last week and I had missed it. Woops. He is supposed to be gone four weeks, so hopefully only three more to go. The defensive line is getting work done this year. Would like to see as many contributors to that as possible. Getting McNair some stats would be great for next year.
- Good to see Vallejo still kicking around. I know he got knicked up a couple of times, so I was concerned that he would be out for an extended period. Martarano is more than capable if anything does happen to Vallejo, but would not want to see Vallejo gone for any other reason than graduating. (THAT MEANS NO LEAVING EARLY VALLEJO!!!)
- Dylan Sumner-Gardner out for... a while. Which sucks. The timing could not be any worse as he literally played one too many games to qualify for a hardship waiver. Harsin did say that he is expected back (it was only a broken ankle) but it is disappointing that he will be gone regardless. As was noted by Jeremy Rodrigues: "DSG tried to walk off a broken ankle [last] Friday. Toughness will never be a question." Here is to a quick recovery DSG!!!
- Kameron Miles has an opportunity now. He is no slouch and more than filled in admirably during the Virginia game. Reminder: he was a three-star recruit that previously was at Texas A&M. The kid is ready for his time. Watch him step up.
- Injuries suck.
Your Turn
Any moves that you find interesting? Any players that deserve a crack at the second slot? Any players making any moves to, perhaps, warranting a shot at the starter? Anyone else as sad as I am that Bacon is no longer on the roster?!
