Today we check-in with a JUCO transfer with some "family ties" on the team in DSG and Akilian Butler. Of course, I’m talking about West Mesquite ties, and that player is #24, Kam Miles.

#24, Kam Miles, RS Sophomore, DB

Stats

Height: 6’1"

Weight: 215 lbs

Junior College: Butler CC, El Dorado, KS

How'd he get to the Blue™?

Kam took a quick detour through Butler CC before arriving at his final destination on The Blue™. He was ranked as the #63 JUCO player by Scout. Prior to that, he red shirted a year at Texas A&M. Coming out of high school, he was listed as a 4-star S by ESPN, Rivals and Scout. ESPN and Rivals even had him listed as the #13 safety in the class, and Scout had him as the #10 S. At that time, he had pretty much every offer you could think of, including WVU, UCLA, Tennessee (whom he committed to for a time), Stanford, TCU, Penn State, Miami, Arizona State, and TAMU just to name a handful. He had a bit of a rough go at TAMU, being dismissed for a violation of team rules. He seemed to learn from his mistakes quickly, apologizing to the TAMU staff, including Marcel Yates, who was the DC there at the time.

Nickname

"Interceptor"

If the ball is coming to you, he’ll get it. If you already have it, you should just give it to him. No one is safe.

Career Highlights

As I stated above, Kam was a pretty big deal coming out of high school. As a senior, he was a U.S. Army All-American, first-team All-District 10-4A, 4A-second-team All-State Academic team, 4A All-Region II First Team (TXHSFB) and second-team All-Area (Dallas Morning News). He registered 85 tackles, 4 interceptions and seven PBUs. His lone year at Butler CC, he had 50 tackles, 27 of them being solo, 2 PBU and 4.5 tackles for loss.

2015 Prospectus

It looks like Kam will be competing with Mercy Maston for the N position. We will see him on the field for sure. And being a RS sophomore, we will see him for another couple years as the starter. If needed, he could slide over to safety, but I feel like the safety position is in good hands with Thompson, DSG, James, Tyler and Wright.  Fall camp will be interesting to see who comes out as the starter between the senior Maston and Miles. Kam is coming off a good season at Butler and Mercy is coming off of an injury. Depending on how Mercy has recovered, Kam could definitely be the starter. Even if he isn't, expect to see plenty of Mile-age in 2015.

Is he on Twitter?

He is, but is unembeddable.

Completely made up fact

Kam's favorite show growing up was He-Man. He loved it so much that he constructed his own fully-functioning Battle Cat. He has painted it blue and orange since joining the Broncos.
