Boise State numerical roster countdown 2015: Day 43, Joe Provenzano

Brian Losness-USA TODAY Sports

It is July 23rd. Know what that means? Only 43 days for Boise State football. Looks like it's time to talk about —Joe Provenzano

#43, Joe Provenzano, RS Freshman, LB

JOE PROVENZANO

Stats

Height: 5' 11"

Weight: 214

High School: Damien HS, Glendora, CA

How'd he get to the Blue™?

He spurned the Huskies (not those ones). Provenzano was a lean, mean tackling machine at La Verne's Damien High School, where he racked up an impressive 193 tackles in the final two years of his four-year varsity career. His offer list was short, but after the Boise State coaching change, he started to hear from the Broncos, who didn't yet have a scholarship available, but wanted him to come and try to earn his spot. In the end, Provenzano had offers from Northern Colorado and Northern Illinois, but chose to take a preferred walk-on spot at a more northern school—our Boise State Broncos.

Nickname

"Prove 'en something"

Probably looking to make a name for himself!

Look-a-like

WENTWORTH

Not sure why, but he reminds me of Wentworth Miller.

Career Highlights

Seeing as he redshirted last year, his highlights from high school still apply.

Selected first team all-conference, first team all-area and team captain as a senior in 2013. Voted LB of the Year by team in 2012 as well as honorable-mention all-conference.

2015 Prospectus

More fistpumping and more getting excited.

Per Phil Steele, via BJ Rains, the Broncos have the 18th-best linebacker crew in the country. That is all awesome, scary (for other teams), and very encouraging for us fans. We get to see a wrecking crew of LBs tear up would-be offenses, and provide some massive hits. This could also prove a bit of an issue for Mr. Provenzano in terms of playing time. No doubt he will see the field, however it could be limited to either mop-up duty, or special teams. Weaver, Vallejo, J-Mart, and Lee are not just going to "let" someone take their respective positions on the depth chart--which is great--but I also think Provenzano will not let his opportunities go by and sit passively. All the competition for playing time will only yield great results and put the BEST player on the field.

Is he on Twitter?

Not a fan of Southwest.

Completely Made Up Fact

His high school is named after me. Anything that comes out of there MUST be awesome. Natch.
