O-line pride continues today with another new face: #77 John Molchon
#77, John Molchon, True Freshman, OL
Stats
Height: 6’6"
Weight: 275 lbs
High School: Faith Lutheran High School, Las Vegas, NV
How'd he get to the Blue™?
Molchon played on both sides of the ball at Faith Lutheran, but was recruited by Boise State to play on the OL. While he received a handful of other offers, his commitment to Boise State in September of 2014 has been iron clad. Molchon could very well be our Clady or Martin of the class: lightly and under recruited, but has future star written all over him. He’s listed as the #1 OT recruit in the state of Nevada, which is no small feat with schools like Bishop Gorman to compete with. He was listed as a 3-star recruit by Scout and 247 and a 2-star recruit by Rivals.
Nickname
"Little John"
I went the stereotypical irony route with this one in that John is an imposing man child.
Look-a-like
Our very own shooty hoops baller Nick Duncan
Career Highlights
Playing on either line can be tough from a statistics point of view, especially on the OL. Molchon played primarily on the defensive side of the ball, but was recruited as a offensive tackle by the Broncos. His totals through his 3 years on varsity include 2 fumble recoveries, 28 solo tackles, 77 total tackles and 3 sacks. He was on the All State team twice in the 1-A division and named Division 1-A Lineman of the year in 2013 along with Sunset League Lineman of the year his final season. So though the "quantifiable evidence" may be tough to come by, Molchon has the physical prowess and mental preparation to be a great O-lineman for the Broncos.
2015 Prospectus
With the departure of Henry and Odhiambo after this season, we will be in need of some young guys to step up. I fully expect Molchon to redshirt this year, as most OL do. There is plethora of bodies on the OL, so having a year in the system to learn and train will be paramount for Molchon. As Drew stated yesterday, Boise State generally looks for athletic lineman. That generally means a smaller body, but Molchon would be an exception to that. At 6’6" and 270+ pounds AS A TRUE FRESHMAN, he will be an absolute beast to try and move for any DL. He moonlighted as a TE for Faith Lutheran, which speaks volumes of his athleticism. He will be in a great position to fill in with the 2’s for the 2016-2017 season. Avery, Buhr and Baggett will be gone after that season, so he will be in prime position to move into a starting position. Definitely no guarantee, but he has the tools to do so.
Is he on Twitter?
Indeed he is. He also enjoys fishing.

Completely made up fact
John auditioned for the role of Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane for Game of Thrones, but withdrew his name from consideration. He didn’t feel it was fair to the others who auditioned. Plus, it would eat into his workout schedule and they weren’t going to let him attend the 2015 Fiesta Bowl. With that in mind, it was a no-brainer.
