Boise State Recruiting Check-In

We are closing in on summer and I figured it was about time we check in on our 2016 recruiting class.

Brian Losness-USA TODAY Sports

I apologize for the brief hiatus. It’s been a combination of work, selling/buying a house, and being lazy. But with a little kick in the pants, I’m back. Let’s get to it!

Derrion Grim WR 5’11 191 lbs .03s 40 (unconfirmed)

Derrion is a GREAT pickup at WR that possesses so much quicks Jimmy Johns has been trying to get their hands on him since he was a freshman. With SWR entering his final year of eligibility and the loss of Troy Ware and assumed loss of Rick Smith, his commitment is quite welcome. He seems to have all of the tools to have an instant impact. We’ll have to see how he does in camp once he gets here.

Isaiah Hayes DB 5’11 175 lbs

Isaiah looks to be ready to continue the DBU legacy as a lockdown corner. He definitely has the bloodline for it (fathered is a Pac-10 and NFL vet—brother plays at Oregon State), and based off his highlights, he has the athleticism and skills. How that translates to the next level, we obviously have yet to find out, but I like what I see.  He could stand to gain some weight, but with over a year before he hits the blue turf, I see no reason we won’t put some on. It's worth noting that Hayes has pulled in some big offers since committing (Oklahoma being the latest), so Broncos will need to stay actively recruiting the talented DB.

Micah Wilson QB 6’3 200 lbs 4.6s 40

Wilson’s film is impressive. He’s got an effortless long ball, not to mention his ability to extend the play. A 4.6s 40 is very respectable for a QB—especially one with Wilson's stature. He also hails from Oklahoma, a state we are familiar with beating, but not recruiting from. He also has great height as well. Me thinks he will be a steal in this class once the papers are signed next February.

The 2016 class, I feel, will build off of the success of the 2014 and 2015 classes. It feels like it's been a slow start compared to those classes, but at this time last year the Broncos had just three 2015 commits and didn't land their 4th (LaDarryl Blair) until June. So fans, what other positions do we need to tab? CASEY. ALL OF THEM. Yes, 3 players is not much, but we have our quarterback, and our last recruiting class was very DB heavy. I think we still need AT LEAST one more WR, if not two. With the pickup of Cottrell late for the ’15 class, that could keep it at two. This will definitely be a DL-heavy class. I can see us taking 3-5 DT, maybe 2 DE and maybe 1 or 2 STUD. Part of that depends on what Correa decides to do. Ultimately, I think he stays. What do all of you think?
