The Drmictologist Leads Boise State over San Diego

Coach Leon Rice's squad opens the season with the 'W'

Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

The University of San Diego Toreros gave the Broncos a little bit of trouble, but Anthony Drmic led the Broncos to a 81-75 victory, dropping in 21 points and 9 rebounds in the effort. The Broncos held a 35-33 lead going into intermission but were able to extend a lead early in the second half and hold on for the victory. One warning sign already reared its ugly head with missed late free throws late in the game to keep San Diego in the game. As we saw last year, late game free throws were an Achilles Heel for this squad.

Overall, a great way to start the season. Coach Rice played a lot of bodies and was still able to get the win. The newcomers showed very well. Mikey Thompson was also solid in a starting role but the other returning players, Duncan, Hadziomerovic, et al., not so much.

Other impressive performers:

David Wacker — 12 points, 4 rebounds

Kevin Allen — 9 points, 6 rebounds

Robert Heyer — 10 points, 4 rebounds

Mikey Thompson — 12 points, 2 assists
