I'm back! Boise State gets a bye week, so do I...I guess. I was out of town most of last week and a bit out of the loop, but it's Fresno State week, so I've refocused. Speaking of refocused, Boise State's 2015 commit class is doing their best to finish their senior seasons the right way, so here's the latest on the Broncos of the future.
Drew Berger, LB, 6'1" 223 lbs. (Couer d'Alene HS, Couer d'Alene, ID)
Coeur d'Alene defeated Lewiston 46-10 on Friday night to move to 6-1 on the year (CDA suffered their only defeat of the season two weeks ago against Highland). I couldn't find any stats recorded yet for the latest win, but going in to Friday's tussle, Berger had accounted for 335 total yards for the Viking offense and 47 tackles (5 for loss), 2 sacks, 3 INTs and a forced fumble. Couer d'Alene takes on rival Lake City this weekend.
Bryan Jefferson, WR, 6'0" 180 lbs. (Leesburg HS, Leesburg, FL)
Leesburg moved to 3-4 on the year after losing to Forest on Friday night—their second straight defeat. Jefferson's full stats weren't released for the game, but heading into last week's matchup, he had 28 catches for 323 yards and those totals are sure to have climbed significantly in subsequent games against Edgewater and Forest. Leesburg will try to right the ship this Friday against South Lake.
Damion (DJ) Wright, S, 6'1" 185 lbs. (Salesian HS, Los Angeles, CA)
Salesian continues to struggle this season and dropped to 2-4 with a loss to Cathedral on Saturday (their 3rd straight loss). Damion's stats haven't been updated to account for Saturday's game, but as of 9/26, he had accounted for 664 yards of offense and 7 TDs while registered 25 tackles, 1 sack and 1 INT on defense. Salesian takes on St. Paul this weekend.
LaDarryl Blair, WR, 5'11" 170 lbs. (South Oak Cliff HS, Dallas, TX)
After starting the season with 3 straight losses, South Oak Cliff has reeled off 3 wins in a row to even their record. Their latest win—against Samuell—was a convincing one, as the Bears won the contest 59-0. Blair's stats only go up to 9/26, but to that point, he'd put up 265 yards of offense and scored 3 receiving TDs. South Oak will try to keep things rolling this Thursday night against Kimball.
Akilian Butler, WR, 5'10" 179 lbs. (West Mesquite HS, Mesquite, TX)
West Mesquite defeated Terrell on Friday night to move to 5-1 on the season. Butler caught 8 passes for 102 yards and a touchdown in the win. Butler's season stats are a bit of a mystery at this point, but I'll try to track them down when they become available. West Mesquite has a bye this weekend before taking on North Forney on the 23rd.
Brett Rypien, QB, 6'2" 195 lbs. (Shadle Park HS, Spokane, WA)
Shadle Park suffered their second loss of the season on Friday night at the hands of Ferris and fell to 4-2 on the year. Rypien continued to do his part, however, and had another solid outing. Rypien passed for 321 yards and 4 TDs in the game, despite missing two of his top WR targets, who were out with injuries. Rypien also had his best game of the year on the ground...scrambling for 145 yards and a score as well. On the season, Rypien has tossed 29 TDs and racked up 2,381 yards through the air. He's also rushed for 260 yards and 2 more scores. Shadle Park takes on Rogers this Friday night.
Darrell Stewart, ATH, 6'1" 190 lbs. (Nimitz HS, Houston, TX)
Nimitz fell to 2-5 on the season on Friday night with a close loss at Benjamin Davis. On the year, Stewart has 715 all-purpose yards and 2 TDs. He also has 8 tackles and 2 INTs on the season. Nimitz plays Memorial on Saturday.
Garrett Larson, OL, 6'5" 250 lbs. (Fruitland HS, Fruitland, ID)
Fruitland moved to 5-1 on the season after defeating Weiser on Friday night by a score of 35-14. Fruitland plays Emmett this weekend.
John Molchon, OL, 6'6" 270 lbs. (Faith Lutheran HS, Las Vegas, NV)
Faith Lutheran beat Sierra Vista on Friday and moved to 4-3 on the season. They will play Pahrump Valley this Friday.
Stats are hard to come by...especially this season, so if you are a person in the know—such as a parent, coach, relative, or friend of a recruit—and have some stats...please send them our way.
