2014 Recruit Roundup: September 30, 2013

Stephen Carr/ Press-Telegram

Dimitri Flowers, TE, 6-3, 220 lbs. (Churchill HS, San Antonio, TX)

The Chargers dropped a close contest to Madison on Friday night, 28-26, and moved to 3-2 on the year...but Flowers did all he could to get the team the win. In fact, Flowers was virtually the entire Churchill offense in the game—rushing for 75 yards and 3 TDs and catching another 49 yard TD. Churchill will try to rebound this weekend against MacArthur.

Jalen Greene, QB, 6-2, 185 lbs. (Serra HS, Gardena, CA)

Greene didn't have his best outing on Friday evening, but Serra got the win against Narbonne anyway—improving to 5-0 in the process. Greene shook off 2 INTs and a lost fumble and rallied for 81 rushing yards and 81 passing including a 5-yard TD strike. By my count, Greene now has 1,137 passing yards and 14 TDs against just 3 INTs. On the ground, he's added another 415 yards and 5 scores. Serra has a bye this week and will return to the field against Harvard-Westlake on the 11th.

Shay Fields, WR, 5-11, 170 lbs. (St. John Bosco, Bellflower, CA)

St. John Bosco remained at 4-0 with a bye week and will begin gearing up for Crenshaw this weekend. Through four games, Fields has 438 receiving yards and 4 TDs on just 20 receptions (a 21.9 YPC average). He's also returned two kickoffs for 91 yards.

Sean Modster, WR, 5-11, 185 lbs. (Mission Viejo HS, Mission Viejo, CA)

Mission Viejo moved to 5-0 after a dominating 56-7 win over Aliso Niguel on Friday night. The Diablos will take on Redlands East Valley (Derrell Acrey's alma mater) on Friday. Stats for Modster have been hard to come by, so if you have an inside track on some, let me know.

Drew Sample, TE, 6-5, 235 lbs. (Newport HS, Bellevue, WA)

Newport moved to 3-1 on the year after a defeat at the hands of Issaquah on Friday night. Full game stats were not released, but Sample did have a 48-yard receiving TD in the game. Newport plays Ballard this weekend.

Brandon Lewis, CB, 5-10, 170 lbs. (Pleasant Grove High School, Elk Grove, CA)

Pleasant Grove now sits at 5-0 on the year after a dominating win over Pitman on Friday night. Lewis made one tackle in the win and also rushed for 17 yards on 3 carries and returned one kickoff for 20 yards. PGHS has a bye this week and then will gear up to play Sheldon on the 11th.

Greg Gaines, DT, 6-2, 295 lbs. (La Habra HS, La Habra, CA)

La Habra got back in the win column on Friday evening—defeating Gahr 43-14. Gaines had a big night defensively, registering 3 sacks and a blocked field goal. He also rushed for 30 yards in the win. Gaines now has 5 sacks on the year. La Habra also has a bye this weekend and will return to action on the 11th against Fullerton.

Hawkins Mann, DE, 6-4, 220 lbs. (John Burroughs High School, Burbank, CA)

Burroughs defeating Glendale 35-14 on Friday night to improve to 2-2 on the year. No stats were logged for Mann in the win. The Indians play Cresenta Valley this Friday.

Khalil Oliver, S, 6-1, 170 lbs. (Rocky Mountain High School, Meridian, ID)

The Grizzlies looked unstoppable through their first four contests, but Capital found a way to slow them down on Friday night—eventually defeating them 42-26. Rocky will play cross-town rival Mountain View this Friday.

Ryan Griswold, OT, 6-5, 250 lbs. (Pearland HS, Pearland, TX)

Pearland is now 4-0 after destroying Pasadena (TX) on Saturday 63-6 .Through 4 games, the Oilers have only given up 9 points to opponents, while themselves scoring 203 points. Pearland will take on Sam Rayburn HS this Friday night.

Jesse Sosebee, OT, 6-6, 300 lbs. (Edison High School, Huntington Beach, CA)

Edison dropped their second straight contest on Friday night, losing to Mater Dei by a score of 21-7. They sit at 2-2 on the year with San Clemente coming up this weekend.

Jaylen Johnson, DE, 6'3", 235 lbs (Centennial High School, Corona, CA)

Centennial defeated Carson on Friday night to move to 3-2 on the year and then Johnson promptly boarded a plane and arrived in time to watch the Broncos defeat Southern Miss on Saturday night. No stats were logged by Johnson on Friday, but through the first 4 games, Johnson is credited with 44 tackles (2 for loss) and 2 sacks. Centennial plays Norco in two weeks.

Stats are hard to come by in many prep circles. If you have any tips on any of the 2014 Bronco verbal commits, let me know.
