Boise State defeats Utah 69-67

Brian Losness-USA TODAY Sports

The Broncos won a close won last night. A little bit of a struggle at times, but a win is a win is a win. What's good about this win, though, is that it was against a Pac-12 school, which will certainly help the RPI come March. It also sets up a showdown with Kentucky on December 10th where Boise State will go to Lexington with an undefeated record (most likely) and a dangerous bravado. As my man Juwan Howard once said, "Shock the World!"

I liked... holding a team that averages over 90 points per game to 67.

I didn't like... only scoring 69.

I liked... maintaining and then increasing the lead with Derrick Marks off the floor for a large portion of the second half.

I didn't like... late game free throws.

I liked... Nick Duncan's moxie and knocking down those two 3s.

I didn't like... shooting 28.6% from beyond the arc.

I liked... Jeff Elorriaga scoring seven points with just one field goal attempt. Very efficient, Jeff.

I didn't like... Jeff Elorriaga only getting one field goal attempt!?!?!?! Be more selfish, Jeff. Teams have really clamped down on him defensively and he can't create his own shot. I am interested to see what wrinkles will be put into the offense to get him open looks.

I liked... outrebounding Utah 32-28.

I didn't like... only three people playing off of the bench. Not saying any of the players who didn't play should be playing 15 minutes per game, but I would look to see a more concerted effort to develop bench depth during live games.

I liked... Thomas Bropleh's three assists off the bench.

I didn't like... Anthony Drmic's six turnovers.

I liked... how Ryan Watkins finished the game.

I didn't like... how Ryan Watkins played before that. It was dreadful. When Drmic's dish underneath the hoop bounced off of Watkins' chest and then out of bounds, I about broke my television. That is Watkins' primary job in this offense. Hopefully that served as a big wake up call because Boise State's dynamic guards need to have him as a trusted option as the season continues.

I liked... that the crowd was a factor in early December.

I didn't like... that there were only 7,151 in attendance. Capacity is 12,644. I know it was cold out, but this team is something Boise has never seen.
