2014 Recruit Roundup: December 2, 2013

Let's be honest, if you're still playing high school football in December, you're doing something right.

Jalen Greene, QB, 6-2, 185 lbs. (Serra HS, Gardena, CA)

Serra is still alive in the CIF playoffs and still undefeated for that matter. Serra secured a spot in the CIF Southern Section (West Division) Championship with a win over St. Francis on Friday and Greene was a big reason why. Greene led the Cavs to a come-from-behind win and shook off 2 INTs in the contest with 198 rushing yards and two key scores. On the year, Greene has 2,303 passing yards and 30 TDs with just 6 INTs. On the ground, he has rushed for 1,130 yards and 14 scores. Serra will face Chaminade in the championship this weekend—a team that they defeated 36-0 back in October. Game highlights are below and a post-game interview complete with Boise State shoutout can be found HERE.

Sean Modster, WR, 5-11, 185 lbs. (Mission Viejo HS, Mission Viejo, CA)

Mission Viejo finally dropped a game and unfortunately it was THE game. The Diablos dropped a tight contest to powerhouse Mater Dei in the CIF quarterfinals and ended their season 11-1. The Pac-5 division championship will feature Mater Dei and St. John Bosco (home of ex-commit Shay Fields and hopeful commit Jacob Tuioti-Mariner). Modster's season stats have not been released, but will likely come out when he inevitably lands on some all-conference teams. Stay tuned.

Drew Sample, TE, 6-5, 235 lbs. (Newport HS, Bellevue, WA)

Season over. Final record: 8-3. Final (incomplete) stats: 9 catches, 265 yards, 5 TDs

Brandon Lewis, CB, 5-10, 170 lbs. (Pleasant Grove High School, Elk Grove, CA)

Lewis' season has been over for a few weeks after suffering a season-ending hamstring injury. Still, Pleasant Grove soldiered on, making it all the way to the CIF San Joaquin Section semifinals before losing to Oak Ridge. PGHS finished with a 10-3 record and Lewis finished his season with 444 rushing yards and 8 TDs.

Greg Gaines, DT, 6-2, 295 lbs. (La Habra HS, La Habra, CA)

La Habra finished their season 10-2 after losing a heartbreaker to Newport Harbor in the CIF Southern Section (Southwest Division)

Khalil Oliver, S, 6-1, 170 lbs. (Rocky Mountain High School, Meridian, ID)

Season over. Final record: 10-3. Final stats: Unknown

Ryan Griswold, OT, 6-5, 250 lbs. (Pearland HS, Pearland, TX)

The wins are getting closer, but Pearland is still winning, and thus still alive in the Texas 5A D1 playoffs. Pearland defeated Lamar on Friday to move to the UIL State Football Championship Final Four, where they'll play Cy-Fair this weekend to try to make the state championship game. Good luck, Oilers!

Jesse Sosebee, OT, 6-6, 300 lbs. (Edison High School, Huntington Beach, CA)

Edison's season ended on Friday with a CIF Southern Section (Southwest Division) semifinal loss to Huntington Beach. Edison finished their year 9-4 and one TD away from the CIF Southern Section championship game.

Jaylen Johnson, DE, 6-3, 235 lbs (Centennial High School, Corona, CA)

Centennial defeated Upland in Friday's CIF Southern Section (Inland Division) semifinals to move to the championship game this weekend. Centennial's offense went absolutely crazy in the contest, defeating Upland 86-56. Not sure if Johnson participated in Friday's contest because no stats were recorded for him, but nonetheless Centennial will take on Vista Murrieta in their CIF final this weekend. Good luck, Huskies!

Kekoa Nawahine, ATH, 6-2, 190 lbs (Rocky Mountain High School, Meridian, ID)

Season over. Final record: 10-3. Final stats: 45 catches for 834 yards and 5 TDs and made 63 tackles (2 for loss) and 4 INTs.

Troy Bacon, OG, 6-4, 280 lbs (Oak Hills High School, Hesperia, CA)

I erroneously placed Bacon on Apple Valley High School's roster last go 'round (which is where Scout.com lists him), but he actually plays for Oak Hills, who had a much better season than Apple Valley. Oak Hills season just ended on November 22nd with a CIF Southern Section (Eastern Division) quarterfinal loss to Norte Vista. Oak Hills finished their season 10-2.

David Moa, DE, 6-4, 245 lbs (Kearny HS, San Diego, CA)

Moa's Kearny squad had a disappointing 1-9 season this year and are obviously done. Working on getting Moa's season stats and will post as soon as I can. On the bright side, Moa is also a standout basketball player and basketball season has just begun.

Bonus hoops roundup:

Boise State's 2014 basketball recruits are already signed...just not yet delivered. One of the big "gets" from this year's class is center David Wacker from Judson HS in Converse, TX. An attentive OBNUGer in Texas was kind enough to send me Wacker's season stats thus far...

David Wacker, C, 6-9, 235 lbs (Judson HS, Converse, TX)

Judson is 7-1 on the year and Wacker is averaging 10.6 points/game as well as 9.6 rebounds/game, 2.1 assists/game and 2 blocks/game. Judson plays Highlands on Tuesday night and then will begin play in the Seguin Tournament on Thursday.

Stats are hard to come by in many prep circles. If you have any tips on any of the 2014 Bronco verbal commits, let me know.
