2014 Recruit Roundup: November 10, 2013

You win some, you lose some.

Dimitri Flowers, TE, 6-3, 220 lbs. (Churchill HS, San Antonio, TX)

Gah! Apparently, I offended Dimitri with my bye week hiatus and he becomes the 4th known de-commit of the Broncos 2014 class. Flowers was offered by Oklahoma last week and the idea of playing Big 12 ball in his own backyard was too much to pass up. We wish Dimitri well, but this is the last you'll be hearing of him on the roundup (man, this is getting old).

Jalen Greene, QB, 6-2, 185 lbs. (Serra HS, Gardena, CA)

Serra successfully completed their undefeated regular season on Friday night by dismantling St. Paul and now sit at 10-0 with the playoffs looming. Greene and defensive star Dwight Williams did not start Friday's game because they were late for a team walkthrough, but when Greene did come in, he made it worthwhile—going a perfect 7-of-7 for 145 yards and 2 TDs through the air. Greene added one more TD on the ground to give him 11 rushing TDs on the year (780 rushing yards). His passing numbers are impressive: 1,961 yards and 26 TDs with just 4 INTs. Serra will open the CIF Southern Section playoffs (Western Division) this Friday against Pacifica.

Sean Modster, WR, 5-11, 185 lbs. (Mission Viejo HS, Mission Viejo, CA)

Mission Viejo also completed an undefeated regular season (10-0) on Friday night with a big 60-25 win over El Toro and will open the CIF Southern Section Playoffs (Pac 5 Division) on Friday against Crespi. Modster had 2 TD receptions in Friday night's win and 3 in their previous game against Trabuco Hills. Modster's season stats have not yet been released.

Drew Sample, TE, 6-5, 235 lbs. (Newport HS, Bellevue, WA)

Newport made it out of the State Playoff Round of 32 on Friday by defeating Lake Stevens and now will look to continue their playoff run with a win against Bellarmine Prep on Friday night. The 8-2 Knights defeated Lake Stevens 62-35 and will try to keep momentum rolling against Bellarmine, who also holds an 8-2 record and is coming off a game where they too put up over 60 points of offense. Sample's season stats have yet to be released.

Brandon Lewis, CB, 5-10, 170 lbs. (Pleasant Grove High School, Elk Grove, CA)

Pleasant Grove dropped their last two regular season games of the year (against Oak Ridge and Folsom) and finished 8-2, but did enough to secure a playoff berth. Unfortunately, Lewis had to watch his team struggle from the sidelines, as a hamstring injury ended his season prematurely. You may remember that Lewis was coming off an ACL tear this year, so another injury was a tough blow...but thankfully it wasn't to his repaired knee. Lewis finished his season with 444 rushing yards and 8 TDs, 11 tackles and 86 kickoff return yards. PGHS will take on Modesto this Friday in the first round of the CIF San-Joaquin Section playoffs.

Greg Gaines, DT, 6-2, 295 lbs. (La Habra HS, La Habra, CA)

La Habra finished their regular season at 9-1 with a win over Buena Park on Friday night and will now try to extend their season with a win over Canyon on Friday in the opening round of the CIF Southern Section Playoffs (Southwest Division). With Friday's win, La Habra captured their seventh consecutive Freeway League Title and Gaines played a big role with 2 sacks in the game. I'll try to get Gaines' season totals ASAP.

Khalil Oliver, S, 6-1, 170 lbs. (Rocky Mountain High School, Meridian, ID)

Rocky Mountain defeated Eagle on Friday night to move on to the State semifinals. The 10-1 Grizzlies will take on undefeated Highland this Friday night. Oliver's season stats have not been logged.

Ryan Griswold, OT, 6-5, 250 lbs. (Pearland HS, Pearland, TX)

Pearland's dominating and undefeated season hit a road bump last weekend against Manvel, who served the Oilers a 42-7 loss. Prior to the Manvel game, Pearland had only given up 27 points all year long. Luckily, the Oilers were back to their old tricks on Friday night, defeating Dobie 38-7 and topping off their regular season at 9-1 with the state playoffs looming.

Jesse Sosebee, OT, 6-6, 300 lbs. (Edison High School, Huntington Beach, CA)

Edison closed out their regular season at 7-3 after defeating Marina on Friday night—securing a spot in the CIF Southern Section Playoffs (Southwest Division). Edison will take on Cypress this Friday.

Jaylen Johnson, DE, 6-3, 235 lbs (Centennial High School, Corona, CA)

Centennial thrashed Corona 74-0 on Friday night moved to 8-2 on the year. Johnson had 2 tackles in the win (one for-loss) and, on the season, has 63 total tackles (3 for loss) and 2 sacks. Centennial takes on Etiwanda this Friday.

Stats are hard to come by in many prep circles. If you have any tips on any of the 2014 Bronco verbal commits, let me know.
