2014 Recruit Roundup: October 6, 2013

Dimitri Flowers, TE, 6-3, 220 lbs. (Churchill HS, San Antonio, TX)

Churchill defeated MacArthur 46-29 on Friday night and improved to 4-2 on the year. No other way to say it: Flowers was dominant in the win, with 204 receiving yards and 3 TDs on just FIVE receptions—and all BEFORE halftime. Churchill will play Johnson this coming Friday.

Jalen Greene, QB, 6-2, 185 lbs. (Serra HS, Gardena, CA)

Serra easily defeated BYE this week to remain 5-0 and will commence preparations for Harvard-Westake this Friday. On the season, Greene has 1,158 passing yards for 14 TDs and just 3 INTs. On the ground, he's accounted for 425 rush yards and 5 more TDs.

Shay Fields, WR, 5-11, 170 lbs. (St. John Bosco, Bellflower, CA)

St. John Bosco demolished Crenshaw on Friday night by a score of 75-35 and Fields put on a clinic in the win, with 141 yards and 4 TDs on just six receptions (23 YPC). SJB is now 5-0 and will play Santa Margarita on Friday.

Sean Modster, WR, 5-11, 185 lbs. (Mission Viejo HS, Mission Viejo, CA)

Mission Viejo defeated Redlands East Valley on Friday night and moved to 6-0 on the year. Modster had a 48-yard punt return score in the contest for the Diablos, helping them cruise to a 47-21 win. Mission Viejo will take on San Clemente this Friday to try to remain unbeaten.

Drew Sample, TE, 6-5, 235 lbs. (Newport HS, Bellevue, WA)

Newport got back in the win column on Friday night and improved to 4-1 on the year with a 38-26 win over Ballard. Maxpreps says that Sample had just one 16 yard reception in the win, but he made it count, as it went for a touchdown. Newport will take on Roosevelt this Friday.

Brandon Lewis, CB, 5-10, 170 lbs. (Pleasant Grove High School, Elk Grove, CA)

Undefeated (5-0) Pleasant Grove had a bye this week and will begin prep for their matchup with Sheldon on Friday. On the year, Lewis has 194 rushing yards (on 23 carries) and 3 TDs, but just 2 tackles to his credit.

Greg Gaines, DT, 6-2, 295 lbs. (La Habra HS, La Habra, CA)

La Habra also had a bye week, so remain 4-1 on the year, and will gear up to take on Fullerton this Friday. Gaines has 5 sacks so far this season and as you can tell from this video is a LOT for opposing blockers to handle. Also, Greg looks like the Juggernaut (without his helmet). Dude...

Hawkins Mann, DE, 6-4, 220 lbs. (John Burroughs High School, Burbank, CA)

Burroughs beat Crescenta Valley on Friday and improve to 3-2 on the season. Crescenta Valley led by 17 early, but Burroughs reeled off 24 unanswered to get the win. Game stats for Mann were not logged. Burroughs will take on Muir this Friday.

Khalil Oliver, S, 6-1, 170 lbs. (Rocky Mountain High School, Meridian, ID)

Rocky Mountain defeated cross-town rival Mountain View on Friday night with Boise State coaches (including Chris Petersen) in attendance. The Statesman noted that Oliver didn't get much action in the contest, as Mountain View (wisely) stayed away from his side of the field. Eagle is next up for the 5-1 Grizzlies.

Ryan Griswold, OT, 6-5, 250 lbs. (Pearland HS, Pearland, TX)

Pearland is 5-0 and looks nigh unstoppable this season. They defeated Sam Rayburn 62-0 on Friday night—their second straight week scoring 60+ points. On the season, the Oilers have outscored their opponents 265-9 and posted 3 shutouts.

Jesse Sosebee, OT, 6-6, 300 lbs. (Edison High School, Huntington Beach, CA)

Edison defeated San Clemente 35-7 on Friday night and are now sitting at 3-2 on the year. Huntington Beach is up next for the Chargers this Friday night.

Jaylen Johnson, DE, 6'3", 235 lbs (Centennial High School, Corona, CA)

Full season stats for Johnson haven't been released and Centennial was idle this weekend, so no changes to the win/loss column (3-2) or Johnson's statbook this week. Through the first 4 games, Johnson is credited with 44 tackles (2 for loss) and 2 sacks. Centennial plays Norco this Friday.

Stats are hard to come by in many prep circles. If you have any tips on any of the 2014 Bronco verbal commits, let me know.
