Powerful polls: Mountain West rankings and other polls for Week 10

Behold the Mountain West power rankings in all their wrongheaded glory. Also, there are other rankings of varying importance.

The Mountain West Powerful Poll

  1. Fresno State
  2. Boise State
  3. San Diego State
  4. Utah State

Explain myself: Nevada continues its slow slide toward the Air Force basement, losing to UNLV last week. How bad is the Wolf Pack? How good are the Running Rebels? What is love, baby don't hurt me?

I moved San Diego State up to third because of recent hot streak of competitiveness, including last week's OT loss to Fresno. There's no telling if the Aztecs deserve such lofty praise, but I guess we'll find out November 23 when Boise State visits. Personally, I'd rather the Broncos be playing the version of Aztecs that lost to FCS Eastern Illinois.

For reference, here are the Mountain West conference standings - free from my bias (other than the huge, gold highlight for Boise State).

Boise State's potential bowl rankings

I'm souring on the likelihood of a 100th consecutive trip to the Vegas Bowl because 1) Boise State keeps losing and 2) Fresno is super vulnerable to losing. Should Fresno lose once or twice, they are the likely Vegas Bowl team based on my rudimentary understanding of the bowl system. That would put Boise State in the Orange Bowl? (I'm telling you, my understanding is very rudimentary.)
