2014 Recruit Roundup: October 13, 2013

Dimitri Flowers, TE, 6-3, 220 lbs. (Churchill HS, San Antonio, TX)

Churchill put up a fight, but it wasn't enough as they fell to Johnson 49-21 on Friday night and moved to 4-3 on the year. After dominating last week's game, Johnson wisely decided to double, triple and quadruple Flowers all night, so he only managed 40 yards of offense (10 rushing, 30 receiving), but did score 2 of Churchill's 3 TDs in the contest. Churchill will try to get back in the win column when they visit Roosevelt in 2 weeks.

Jalen Greene, QB, 6-2, 185 lbs. (Serra HS, Gardena, CA)

Greene's Serra squad showed no signs of post bye week rust on Friday night when they dispatched Harvard-Westlake by a score of 63-7. Serra forced four first half turnovers in the contest and five overall and Serra easily moved to 6-0 on the year. Greene threw for 2 TDs in the win (on a ginger ankle, no less) and rushed for another. Full game stats have not yet been released, so I won't attempt to update his season stats just yet. but his scoring numbers are now 16 passing TDs and 6 rushing. Serra will take on Chaminade this Friday and Greene is then slated to make his official to The Blue the following day.

Shay Fields, WR, 5-11, 170 lbs. (St. John Bosco, Bellflower, CA)

St. John Bosco defeated Santa Margarita 56-12 on Friday night to stay unbeaten on the year (6-0). Fields was his dominant self in the contest, hauling in 10 passes for 110 yards. On the year, Fields now has 693 yards on just 36 receptions (19.5 YPC). SJB will gear up to play Orange Lutheran on Friday and then Fields is also scheduled to make his visit to The Blue for Saturday's matchup with Nevada.

Sean Modster, WR, 5-11, 185 lbs. (Mission Viejo HS, Mission Viejo, CA)

Mission Viejo had a bye on Friday so remain at 6-0. Modster's stats have yet to be updated. Mission Viejo will take on San Clemente this Friday and Modster will then join his future teammates on an official to The Blue on the 19th.

Drew Sample, TE, 6-5, 235 lbs. (Newport HS, Bellevue, WA)

Newport defeated Roosevelt 35-17 on Friday night and now sit at 5-1 on the year with a tough test against Skyline looming on Friday. The game boxscore indicates that Sample had one 32-yard reception for a TD in the win.

Brandon Lewis, CB, 5-10, 170 lbs. (Pleasant Grove High School, Elk Grove, CA)

Pleasant Grove topped Sheldon on Friday night to move to 6-0 on the year. Lewis' stats were not yet released for the win. PGHS will take on Ponderosa this Friday evening.

Greg Gaines, DT, 6-2, 295 lbs. (La Habra HS, La Habra, CA)

La Habra improved to 5-1 on the year with a 48-21 win over Fullerton on Friday night. It was the 31st consecutive league win for La Habra. Gaines had a rushing touchdown in the contest, but I was unable to find his defensive statistics for the contest. La Habra plays Sunny Hills this Friday and I believe Gaines is scheduled to be in Boise the following day to see the Broncos take on the Wolf Pack.

Hawkins Mann, DE, 6-4, 220 lbs. (John Burroughs High School, Burbank, CA)

Burroughs fell back to .500 with a blowout loss to Muir on Friday night. Mann did not play in the contest with reported leg injuries. Burroughs plays Hoover this Thursday evening.

Khalil Oliver, S, 6-1, 170 lbs. (Rocky Mountain High School, Meridian, ID)

Rocky Mountain handed Eagle their first loss of the season on Friday night and moved to 6-1 on the year. No stats for Oliver were released. Rocky Mountain plays Centennial this Friday.

Ryan Griswold, OT, 6-5, 250 lbs. (Pearland HS, Pearland, TX)

Pearland remains undefeated after shutting out Alvin HS on Friday night...their 4th shutout of the year. So far this year, Pearland has outscored their opponents 308-9. They'll take on South Houston this coming Saturday.

Jesse Sosebee, OT, 6-6, 300 lbs. (Edison High School, Huntington Beach, CA)

Edison defeated Huntington Beach 48-6 on Friday night and improved to 4-2 on the year. Obviously, stats aren't really what offensive tackles "do", but the 48 point offensive outburst certainly a testament to the O-line. Edison will take on Newport Harbor this Friday.

Jaylen Johnson, DE, 6'3", 235 lbs (Centennial High School, Corona, CA)

Centennial defeated Norco 43-25 on Friday night and moved to 4-2 on the year. Johnson's stats weren't made available, but his teammate Tre Watson (a Boise State offeree) had 382 rushing yards in the game—only his second highest rushing game of the season. Centennial plays King this Friday.

Stats are hard to come by in many prep circles. If you have any tips on any of the 2014 Bronco verbal commits, let me know.
