Boise State's NFL contingent got on the board this week with a pair of touchdowns, a sack-and-a-half, and tons of tackles. Read on to find out who did what, and tune in tonight for the not-ballyhooed-at-all matchup of Ryan Clady vs. Tommy Gallarda on Monday Night Football.
Former Bronco MVP of Week One: Shea McClellin
McClellin made Aaron Rodgers work last Thursday night, hassling Mr. Franchise Quarterback to the tune of 1.5 sacks, two QB hits, and untold amounts of consternation. The performance is exactly what Chicago thought it would be getting when it drafted McClellin in the Top 20 last spring, so you can put away those second-guessing hats, Chicago fans. At least for this week (the hats are always within arm's length, just in case).
McClellin played nearly 50 percent of the defensive snaps for the second week in a row, so you can expect him to make his living as Chicago's pass rush specialist and QB burr. He's off to a good start.
Elsewhere ...
- Seahawks safety Jeron Johnson returned a blocked punt for a touchdown in Seattle's win over Dallas. It was a case of being in the right place at the right time as the blocked ball bounced right into Johnson's arms, three yards away from the end zone. But in order to be in the right place, you have to be on the field, so kudos for contributing.
- Tampa Bay running back Doug Martin scored his first career touchdown on an eight-yard run against the Giants. Martin had 20 carries for 66 yards - workhorse numbers.
- Billy Winn (Cleveland), Quintin Mikell (St. Louis), Daryn Colledge (Arizona), Titus Young (Detroit), and Kyle Wilson (Jets) all got the start for their respective teams.
- Kellen Moore was inactive for the second week in a row.
