The NFL season has arrived, and with it all the replacement refereeing and illegal hitting and Manningses you could want. There are also lots of Boise State players, as 18 former Broncos dot NFL rosters.
Former Bronco MVP of Week One: Doug Martin
To say that Martin is the clear-cut starter in Tampa Bay is putting it mildly. He carried the ball 24 times against Carolina, compares to RB2 LeGarrette Blount's three carries. Message received, Greg Schiano.
Martin made solid work of his 24 carries, gaining 95 hard-earned yards in the Tampa Bay win. He added four catches for 23 yards, giving him 118 yards on the day. No touchdowns ... yet. Be afraid, Week Two opponent New York Giants. Be very afraid.
Elsewhere ...
- Billy Winn started for the Cleveland Browns in their narrow loss to the Eagles.
- Kyle Wilson intercepted Buffalo QB Ryan Fitzpatrick in the first quarter, setting off a no-good, very-bad day for the Bills.
- Quintin Mikell had eight tackles.
- Shea McClellin hit a quarterback.
- Kellen Moore willed the Detroit Lions to victory, mentally (he was inactive for the Rams-Lions game).
