Joey Martarano Still solid on Boise State football
Joey says it would take a lot of money to get him away from BSU football. Good to hear it again because I'm really looking forward to seeing both him and Alec Dhaenens together on The Blue.

Interesting that the coaches mentioned the NFL...
I also didn’t know that he may play DE. Pretty cool to be compared to Shea though…glad he’s still committed and can’t wait to see him play!

this should be interesting.
if i had a chance to play a sport with more years and an EXTREMELY decent pay, it would be hard to turn down the money. at that point it would be which sport do you like more (or think you would be more successful at).

If this kid doesn't highlight the "5-Star Fallacy" I don't know who does.
Martarano has all the tools to compete with any and every kid his age, but will not get a “5-Star” tag from any of the big recruiting databases or listed on any “Top 100” recruiting lists because he has already committed to BSU.
Those sites are set up exclusively to make money off of the fans of “big-time” programs. In the effort to do just that, they make sure the recruits that sign with those “big-time” programs are rated high enough to get those fans to pay for the service.
Martarano, like McClellin before him, can compete with any kid in this country his age, and will do so as much because of the chip he will wear on his shoulder as because he is flat out talented— OKG!
Happy to have you on our side, Joey.

If he's as good as advertised (one of best 1st/3rd base prospects)
then I wouldn’t hold out hope for this guy. It would really be great if he came here, but if he is drafted in the 1st round in next May’s MLB draft, he will be offered $1M plus signing bonus, which is “A lot of money”. I wouldn’t blame him for giving up football for that.

and that's what i'm wondering too.
if i had the talent to get paid to play a sport, you best believe i’d be doing things to that effect.

Yeah, that's why it's so cool to see that he's still really high on playing football.
I think he probably understands the kind of signing bonus that might be involved with baseball. If he gets drafted where he’s ranked right now the signing bonus won’t even be close to 1 million dollars, it’ll probably be closer to 3 times that amount.
Like Jake Locker, his heart seems to be with football, but it will be temping to take the money for sure. The more he sees himself as being able to achieve what Shea McClellin, did the easier it will be to play football and delay the payoff.

agree "if he is as good as advertised"
I’ve watched him play baseball for a couple of years now and he is good. I don’t know if he is first round good, because I’ve never seen a first rounder playing high school baseball. We just don’t get that experience, here in Idaho. I do know that teams will pitch cautiously to him, but I’ve never seen anyone pitch around him. I also know that he doesn’t stand out as an awe-inspiring type of player; especially when he is competing at the 5A level during the summer. That whole Fruitland team has some excellent ball players on the team. Joey just looks like a good, solid, baseball player.
With that said, if he does go in the first round as this article implies he might (http://espn.go.com/blog/high-school/baseball/post/_/id/1519/martarano-tops-among-%e2%80%9913-corner-inf) then I have no doubt he will choose baseball. The bonus, salary, career longevity, college scholarship options, etc are too great to overlook. Look, he’s being honest with everyone. He said it would take a lot of money to get him away from Boise State. If he is a first rounder, he will definitely see a “lot of money”.
Joey, good luck in whichever choice you make. I for one will be a big fan either way.

I don't see this kid wearing a Bronco uniform.
Really good person, but I just don’t see it happening. A million plus is a lot of coin.

Make Joey a QB.
He is big and has a big arm in other words a proto- type NFL QB.
