Kellen Moore signs with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent. He'll be throwing to Titus Young again, which is just unfair for the Detroit secondary in practice. Other Lions QBs include Matthew Stafford, Shaun Hill, and that's it.
Also, Chase Baker signs with the Vikings, Aaron Tevis to the Saints Tyler Shoemaker to the Bucs, Jarrell Root to the Dolphins.

Sigh
It’s going to be tough for him to get much of a chance to play with Stafford there. Let’s hope some opportunities to show what he can do come along…

Last year was his first season without missing a game due to injury. That’s pretty darn injury prone, and- particularly for quarterbacks- shoulder injuries often recur. Moore will have a good shot at seeing the field if he makes the roster, which he almost certainly will as a kid like Moore will devour the Lions playbook in minimal time.

Stafford has been injury prone and Kellen should be able to beat out Hill sooner or later. Besides who has better chemistry with Titus ?

This MAY be the BEST situation possible
Stafford is a “good” quarterback - not a “great” quarterback. Much better to be completing against Stafford than Brady, Rodgers, Brees, Manning or Luck…and, there are some great receivers in Detroit…
This is a FANTASTIC spot to land!

Rumor has it that Jarell Root got a FA contract too.

Was just going to add this...
He says he’s got a shot… aka he’s going somewhere, but hasn’t said where. Of course, like every other former Boise State player tonight, it’s mission impossible trying to get ahold of him, so for now we just have to wait and wonder…

If history repeats itself, and assuming Stafford stays healthy (which shouldn’t be a problem), Kellen likely won’t be dressing for any game, because the Lions’ third string quarterback last year (Drew Stanton) didn’t either, which is one of the reasons why he went to the Jets Colts. However, Shaun Hill is getting up there, signed a two year contract recently, so maybe Kellen will wind up being the full-time backup after that. Hope so.

Lions, Bucaneers (2), Bears, Vikings, Saints, Dolpins, Cowboys, Browns, Bengals, Cardinals….these teams are fortunate to have our former Broncos. I am so proud of our BSU football program!

Stafford dislocates his shoulder
whenever a d lineman looks at him. I was hoping he would go to Seattle. They drafted Russel Wilson? How did the last running quarterback work out for them again? I think this could turn out to be a beautiful thing!!

I was so mad Kellen didn't get drafted
But I really do believe the Lions is the best situation for him. They only had two quarterbacks on the roster to begin with. Stafford’s durability is still considered suspect and Shaun Hill is on the other side of the hill.
Plus Kellen reunites with Titus and he has Megatron to throw to. I have no doubt Kellen is highly motivated and will prove himself on the team and in the league.

Any negative implications if he picks up a headset??

Gaaaaaaah!!!!!
So freaking excited my Lions picked up Kellen!! I thought the peak of fanhood for me was Barry Sanders, my childhood idol, announcing the Titus Young pick…but this seriously competes with that. Now we just need to bring back Ian. Seriously, the Dolphins let him go and he spent two years on our practice squad learning our offense. We need the depth, and I need an excitement induced heart attack at 24 :) :) :D !!!

The more think about, now that we have seen where Kellen went... I forgive Elway and thank him...
Why? Because, unless Manning gets seriously injured (and he is very good at not getting hurt) he is going to the be the starter for the next five years. The notion that Kellen would ever get the starting job before then is not a realistic possibility. Detroit, however, has an decent but injury prone starting QB and a serviceable but aging backup. I can honestly see Kellen being the starter much much sooner than he ever would have in Denver.
And as for being a Denver fan, I hope that by the time Manning retires a better rookie QB will be available and The Ostrich will have demanded a trade because he wasn’t getting any playing time. As if they were going bench the Greatest NFL QB Ever to put in Sasquatch. Please.

Here's what happened......
All 32 teams were wanting a piece of the remarkable Kellen Moore. But such is the man he did not want to go to a team who thought they could do something with him instead he wanted to choose a team he could do something with. So prior to draft circus kicking off and every team in the NFL trying in vain to persuade The Surgeon and his Sammich making abilities to their team, he informed them all that he will wait out the 3 days and carefully watch who each team drafts. You see Kellen didn’t want to go first cab off the rank to a team who would then draft guys who did not fit in with HIS gameplan. Sure he isn’t seen as the first string or on some sites even second string but knowing how hard he will hit the playbook and how motivated he will be to prove the knockers wrong, be guarenteed that he will give spring training his all and make sure Stafford takes notice.
Is the juice worth the squeeze?

Any way to find out what all teams talked to Moore before he signed with the Lions?
by B.D.Bronco on Apr 29, 2025 3:30 PM PDT reply actions
Don't know about that
but here is what Cripe had to say about Kellen’s preferences:
Moore and his agent, David Dunn, used a spreadsheet breaking down each team’s quarterback situation to guide them through the process as their phones began ringing in the seventh round of the draft. Moore also talked extensively with Boise State coach Chris Petersen.
The top candidates were the Lions, Chargers, Rams and Falcons, Moore said. All of those teams have established starters, which allows time for a backup like Moore to develop.
"They felt very confident that (Detroit) was his best opportunity to play in the NFL," Petersen said.

Kellen will play...
It is just a matter of time. Give him some prep time and fate will take care of the rest. He is the back up to a broken horse and a horse ready to pasture. This almost aligns perfectly to the situation I was hoping for him. Pistol rainbows will brighten pulled that dreary town just in time for our boys to come through and make it dreary again; a la Michigan state beat down.

I like the situation this puts him.
As long as the Lions don’t go out and sign another QB or even draft another in the next 2-3 years while Stafford may be going strong. I think now that he has been signed its just a matter of time until he becomes a starter.
