That’s nice of them!

Down to 14th now...tied for 4th in bench press though.

Yeah he grew up and out as well

6’3 to 6’4 and a couple of pounds. I was impressed with this pass catching - and with those long arms, height and weight, he will be mighty popular. In fact, some strength coach may take it upon himself to make him a linebacker. Pretty versatile player…and that gets you points.

With his agression and the way he hits

It wouldn’t be far-fetched to see double as a nickle for a team in that scheme. With his draft stock already sitting at the #1 safety spot and the possibility of making him that type of versatile player, he may go pretty quick. I’d say no later than early 2nd round with a slight possibility of late 1st round… We’ll see.

I think he is sitting at #3

Mark Barron is #1, not sure who is #2 though.

by Bronco05 on Feb 28, 2026 12:52 PM PST up reply actions

He is generally #1 FS...

Although some would argue Martin (OkSt) is better. Barron (Ala) and Smith(Notre Dame) are #1 and #2 safety prospects overall (both SS). George is generally accepted as #3 Safety.

It’s all arguable and depending on scheme and needs, these guys could all get drafted in different orders. Judging on previous drafts I’d say he goes somewhere in the late 2nd to early 3rd round.

Looks like the official results aren't as good as originally advertised...

site now shows him at an official 4.66, which is not very fast (McClellen ran a 4.63 @ 6’-3" 260lbs.)

Official Combine times are of not used by teams or scouts.

His unofficial was 4.59 and most scouts say that it’s generally more accurate. Most teams use their own stopwatches and go with their own times anyway, so he might not be a top performer but he’s also taller and heavier than just about every other Safety at the combine.

what is up with that?

why are “official” times considered the throwaway time?

IDK

I’ve heard several times before all teams clock their own 40’s and go with those numbers. Also, many people say the Combine times are almost always slower than pro day or NFL team times.

Then there is the third time - the RGIII

…the one in his head where he ran a 4.3. I lost some respect for him at the Combine. Whining about how fast he can run when he is not willing to throw (better to die than look bad?). He and Luck show up to grab the spotlight and then don’t have the guts to throw. Anybody know why Osweiler did not throw? Perhaps he was told he can’t really throw well, even for a formerly 6’8" (now suddenly 6’6 7/8") basketball player. Or it could be the Maaco Bowl beatdown…which might also explain the loss of 1 1/8" as well.

by HSridge on Feb 28, 2026 1:53 PM PST up reply actions

re Osweiler

Per Tom Scott:

One quarterback who didn’t throw yesterday in Indianapolis was Arizona State’s Brock Osweiler. Do you remember this? Osweiler suffered a mid-foot sprain on the next-to-last play against Boise State in the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas December 22. "Nobody’s had an issue with it,‘’ Osweiler said. "Everybody understands about the injury. It’s an injury that takes about six to eight weeks to fully heal up. We’re just at the eight-week mark right now." Actually nine, but we’re not counting around here.

F=MA

Sir Isaac Newton says George goes late in the first first or early second round. He doesn’t care about his 40 time.

I like the Nickel idea as well. Did anybody see George crack a smile today? All I saw was serious game face…and when all the DB’s gathered around at the end…it was pretty easy to spot him, the tallest guy on the field.

and he's usually the crack up, right?

i don’t blame him for the straight man look today. He’s gotta get work done.

I doubt it, I'm with ce'sped here...2nd to 3rd round. There is genuine interest in him from what I've been reading.

I know Dallas fans are interested. The issue is that Safety is a position that tends to be drafted in the middle rounds. Only truly elite safeties like Barron, Ed Reed, or Michael Huff tend to go in the 1st round and you rarely see more than one taken in the 1st…sometimes two if there’s amazing talent at the position. Height is also not typically desired in coverage safeties b/c it usually means stiffer in the hips with slower change of direction speed. George is no exception here, he is adversely affected by his height in both these areas although he has been rated as above average for his height in both areas as well.

I’m forecasting George to go bottom of the second or top of the third right now. If he improves his forty at the Pro Day he could find himself selected in the upper mid portion of the 2nd but I’m gonna say that’s his ceiling for right now.

The point was made that some team may bulk him up another 15 pounds to play LB

After seeing him at the combine, I wonder if that’s not a serious possibility.

it's kind of interesting the talk about adding/shedding pounds and playing weight.

people just talk about these things like it’s so simple to do.

Well, money can simply be a tremendous motivating factor

2011 salaries:

• Average NFL player salary: $1.9 million
• Median NFL player salary: $770,000

http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/11_06/b4214058615722.htm

Me? I’m motivated when my clothes get too tight and I have to buy a new wardrobe. (I’ve never had the luxury of being underweight.)

Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they, too, have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexations to the spirit.

That and in an NFL training program

they no longer have to worry about ridiculous NCAA sanctions and can hang out in their team’s cafeteria and gym all day, constantly being monitored by training professionals. Unless they’re Mike Williams or Albert Haynesworth—ie, if they have even a shred of desire to improve their playing ability.

by trigga mike! on Feb 28, 2026 5:31 PM PST up reply actions

I saw that too and it made me wonder. If he could add the weight w/o losing speed and agility it could work out from an athleticism standpoint.

This would be as a 4-3 OLB, probably Weak Side. His 40 would be very respectible at that position, his coverage skills would help tremendously. The really intriguing part is that George’s explosive stats are mostly very good for that position.

In other words, his bench (avg), vertical (above avg.), broad jump (elite), and short shuttle (superior)…with vertical and short shuttle being the most important indicators (explosive leg power and short area acceleration respectively).

Personally, I'd like to see him at one of the safety positions still.

If George wants to play linebacker,

and needs to put on some pounds, that’s not going to be a problem in the long run. A lot of people, and coaches too (obviously) think that these 22 year old kids, “are what they are”.
Maybe they are in height, but not in weight and speed. Most athletes don’t peak until 26-27.
The one factor that makes this untrue, is the abuse & trauma a player goes through while playing football. It can actually stunt a players improvement.
Keep weights on high fast reps, run burst on stairs, focus on nutrition, and George will add density to his frame, while keeping his speed. If he’s careful, his speed will improve anyway, at the same time the extra weight is trying to slow him down.
Its a well know fact that players are just a commodity in the NFL, and all they care about is what you can do now. DB,s & WO’s have a different workout regiment than all the others, and can easily mold their training to fit their personal goals.

If you ever wanted to see Boise St play...may be a good chance. Love em or Hate em, they are always interesting; and now, no matter where you live, "They're Coming To Your City"
