C of I will make decision about resurrecting football program
That's THE College of Idaho, Vandals. I remember when we used to play C of I in the olden days.

I smell a budding rivalry!
College of Idaho vs. University of Idaho
Time is the great equalizer.

GO YOTES!
I’d love to see the Vandals try to out-brag academic prowess with C of I.

They can't out-brag C of I academically
But that doesn’t mean they won’t try…as soon as they start losing to them.
Time is the great equalizer.

in any event
does this mean that NNU will also get a football team so they can “keep up” in the rivalry?
(hopefully people catch the joke i did there.)

If C of I restarts football,
do you suppose they’d be willing to stoop so low as to play the Vandals? Oh, well, even NAIA schools need a cupcake on their schedule, I guess.

You earned yourself a rec

"I'm tired of even the BCS name"
"The whole thing needs to be changed."

i never know how these classifications work.
so would they be NAIA? i would only assume yes.
my guess is it won’t work. where would they play? unless they don’t care about playing in a high school stadium. i don’t think they would have the funding to make it work. especially if they try to get that funding from student fees/tuition.
but kudos to them. hopefully they can get it worked out.

They have an on campus soccer stadium. Many smaller colleges share stadiums with FB and soccer.

Plenty of teams play soccer on turf.
The D2 university here in Grand Junction has separate football and soccer/lacrosse stadiums but both have field turf, and most of the soccer players I know like playing on turf.
And I agree that sharing fields does suck, however, what with all of the various lines (the soccer/lacrosse field has markings for soccer, men’s lacrosse, and women’s lacrosse. Granted they are each a different color, but boy its kind of annoying. I can imagine adding football lines on top of that).
As for sharing a stadium with a local high school, I can see that happening as well. None of the four high schools here in Junction have their own football stadiums. They all have practice fields, but all four plus the university share the 10,000 seat city owned facility across from the university. And the high schools always sell out, but not the university.

Simplot Stadium is across the street
I believe this is where the last C of I teams played, and I know that Caldwell HS should have played there.

This seems like a bad idea
Supporting a football program when your enrollment has dwindled below a thousand students seems like a tough financial model. Caldwell as a community isn’t thriving financially, and the population base is low. The number of alums locally isn’t a huge number to sell tickets to. Equipment, travel and scholarships are expensive. The men’s and women’s basketball teams bus to the oregon area to play two games in three nights. They double up on hotel rooms to keep travel costs down. A football team is so much bigger to try and travel.
The hoops team hasn’t been good in years, and I suspect it has something to do with budget cuts. Adding a high risk sport seems too risky.
The NNC references aboce above are interesting too. NNC has a huge local fan base, and at least three times the enrollment. I don’t think they have a football team planned.
This seems like a tough road to travel. Hopefully the group investigating the opportunity reviews that data without only finding the data that supports a predetermined answer. If they can make it work, then more power to them.

Enrollment is relatively high
The College of Idaho has never been a barn-burner when it comes to large enrollment, and I suspect that is part of its allure. It has always been a select small liberal arts college. According to the most recent figures I can find, its Fall 2011 enrollment is the second-highest in its history, at 1,041 (2010 was tops at 1,055). Granted, expenses have changed since it abandoned the football program 35 years ago, but it appears a smaller enrollment “back in the day” did not adversely affect its ability to field a team.
Heck, when I enrolled as a freshman at Boise College, we only had an enrollment of about 1,300 or so, yet we had a good football program. I’m not saying it’s easy, but it can be done.
