Boise State sails past UNLV, 32-7

Brian Losness-US PRESSWIRE

The Broncos made short work of visiting UNLV, making a 25-0 halftime lead look easy and winning going away 32-7. The Broncos got touchdowns from D.J. Harper (two), Jay Ajayi, and Jerrell Gavins (fumble return for a score) to go along with a 22-for-30 afternoon for Joe Southwick.

Boise State was without Demarcus Lawrence for this game (suspension), and it showed in the way that Lawrence's name was not on the stat sheet for copious amounts of sacks on UNLV's Nick Sherry. Other than that, the defense continued to play at an unfairly high level, forcing three more turnovers and keeping the Rebel passing attack - if you can call it that - to 71 yards.

With the win, the Broncos move to 6-1 on the season and remain atop the MW with a 3-0 record. Fellow MW unbeaten Nevada plays San Diego State tonight.

It was over when ...

Jerrell Gavins scored on a 16-yard fumble return with three minutes to go in the first half, giving Boise State a 25-0 lead.

Box score MVP

Gavins had an interception and a fumble return for a score, highlighting the Bronco pass defense's stifling afternoon. Jamar Taylor continued being amazing, forcing the fumble that Gavins returned.

Gamblers Anonymous question

Did the Broncos cover the point spread? No, they did not. Boise State needed to win by 28, a margin that went out the window when Grant Hedrick handed the Rebels a fumble return touchdown in garbage time.
